Had an interesting experience here recently, I've been here before without any issues, and the samosas are good. However, recently going in with my girlfriend, we went to purchase a few samosas (3), an empanada and a potato salad, however were told that if we got a fourth samosa, we could get a couple of small dipping sauces for free. So we added on a fourth samosa, and went on our day. After looking at the bill ($39.50), it seemed pretty high for 4 samosas and a potato salad. After getting back to the car and doing the math on my phone, thinking initially that they had forgotten the small empanada I ordered(which was forgotten), I went back in thinking they charged us for an empanada but didn't put it in the bag. Asking the lady there, she simply said no, she wouldn't have rung up anything that she didn't bring to the register, and that was the only explanation after inquiring about the nearly $40 charge. They then offered to have me buy an empanada..
After leaving without a valid explanation, or an empanada, we ended up doing the math in the car. Apparently, the large samosas are $5.95 each, however, a four pack is $25.95, which is two dollars more, which doesn't really make sense. So we ended up being pressured into buying a fourth samosa to get the free sauces, but were unaware this four pack actually costed more than buying the four samosas individually. So either the prices don't make sense, and the value gets worse the more you buy, or they bake the price of the sauces into the 'four pack', which makes the sauces not really 'free' at all, since you are paying more in the end. Either way, you pay more for a four pack of samosas ($6.50, compared to paying $5.95 for an individual samosa). Either way, left a bad taste in my mouth, by being pressed into buying more, and in the end paying more, whilst being unaware of the poorly structured pricing scheme. The refusal to explain the higher cost upon reentering the store didn't help, nor did the explanation of 'If I didn't bring it up to the cash, I wouldn't have rung it up' which is more or less saying 'I can't be wrong'.
To the store, and to prospective customers, take a look for yourself and just be aware of the pricing discrepancies, so there won't be any surprises like I had, and had to figure out myself. The place is not a bad place, the samosas are still tasty. However, the high prices, poor pricing structure, and recent service, is more than enough to deter me from going back.
Edit: I'm not here to damage your small business, nor would I want to at this point in time, in these current circumstances. You samosas and chutneys were good, hence why I returned, and I have visited many times before. This is about the ambiguous pricing and customer service alone. Not an attempt to crucify your business, please keep that in mind. But
As much as you attempt to paint this as a crucifixion of your business/small business, it's not. This was an honest response to a bad customer service experience, and your lack of communication/bad attitude, for a company with an ambiguous pricing structure, IMHO. Why such a...
Read moreClearly the best quality South Asian food I have ever eaten. The overall value was excellent. The choice was amazing from different types of samosa to different types of curry dishes. Whoever cooks this stuff is a master chef. You absolutely get what you pay for. If you are expecting 4 samosas for $1, do not come here. This is not that type of restaurant. I would classify this restaurant as a gourmet type restaurant with the food preparers spending a lot of time preparing the meals with the best ingredients available. This is not a, "dump a bunch of samosa into a deep fryer and sell them" type of operation.
The owners are amazing people. They are kind and are always willing to explain what each dish is for those of us not too familiar with South Asian cuisine. The small shop is beautifully decorated, clean and permeating with the delicious fragrances of South Asian cooking.
As a Dundas resident this review is long overdue. Small businesses have suffered terribly during the pandemic. I wanted to provide a shout out to this amazing business and all the amazing commercial operations in beautiful Dundas. Please visit Dundas and more importantly support the amazing people who are the lifeblood of our commercial core....especially our friends at...
Read moreIf you're Indian, avoid this place. The food doesn't represent any of our cultures. It's overpriced, not authentic in terms of its flavours, and the lack of quality is frustrating.
A simple vegetable samosa with potato, peas and spices is hard to mess up. This place managed to mess it up. The filling was bland, the potatoes were uncooked, and the samosas pastry was dusted with something that tasted like Ruffles all-dressed seasoning. The soy and onion samosa had zero seasoning. The channa masala tasted like it came out of a can.
If you aren't familiar with Indian food, please reconsider eating from here. Indian food is about accessibility, affordability, and home cooked meals. This was just sad.
At an average Indian restaurant, you can several samosas for much less than $5. It's going to be prepared by hand, ingredients you'd find in your pantry, and best of all, cooked and seasoned.
Don't be fooled with any "we don't use canola oil" or "we use the freshest ingredients", none of that matters if the food isn't good. This place severely misrepresents Indian food and the people of Dundas, y'all deserve better.
Decor was at least pleasant.
PS, ladoos were $2.95 for 1. Let...
