Driving around Dundas Ontario on a Sunday looking for a cool place for brunch us to a interesting little corner called Jax Sweet Shoppe. A smaller eatery with 6-7 tables and a walk up counter. Pies, Scones, brownies line the glass display along with an ice cream counter. You would think from the name that they only sell sweets, but they have a great little breakfast menu that is all locally sourced and prepared. We had french toast and a waffle breakfast sandwich. The food was tasty and the portions were great. We picked up some baked goods on our way out (how couldn't we? ) The staff was friendly and the service was good. 5 stars

A casual and cosy old-fashioned ice-cream/desserts/candies and diner. Usually we just have ice cream but when my granddaughters came to visit, it was a chance to try their pancakes. We weren't disappointed. The 3 generously sized fluffy pancakes were served with the freshest berries (honestly, some of the nicest raspberries I have tasted in a long time). My granddaughter asked if the pancakes could be served with "nutella" and a generous bowl was served on the side, along with whipped cream and maple syrup. Hopefully, I will get back for more šŸ˜ Great, friendly, cheerful, small town service. It's definitely worth a visit.

Had a fantastic time here with my kids. Wonderful classic ice cream presentation! HIGHLY recommend trying their enormous pies, shared a slice of key lime and it was incredible.. especially the crust! The creativity and high quality of baked goods is very evident. I want to try the scones next time I visit! Environment is fantastic with a very retro feel, and very friendly staff and owner. We will be back!

So - I love this little gem of a place. My friends and her family were down from Alberta over the weekend. Five of us came in for breakfast. We were first given attitude at the door saying the table open was reserved. I didn’t think you took reservations but lucky for us it was the mother of the friends of mine. I wasn’t even going to complain about this but I’m pretty sure the server I just dealt with getting ice cream for the 3rd time in 4 days was the one who served us breakfast. We were never checked on. No syrup or butter given for the waffles. I asked. Then eventually walked up to the booth where the lovely kitchen staff helped me out. I was fine with all this. But tonight (after spending over 200 dollars since Saturday). Bring my friend their raving about the Hewitts icecream. And as we are looking at flavours. The girl behind the counter said - just so you know. We close in five minutes (it was 8:49) never has it taken even half that to scoop 2 cones). I asked for a large. She said we don’t do that. I was told by other staff who confirmed with owner that the button exists so long as it’s a cone. She then scooped our order - as if we were disrupting her close. And this is the same staff member who has many times before, been so obviously unhappy to be working or serving, especially if it requires her to work a few minutes past. Anyways. I normally tip at least 30 percent. She by passed the tip - clearly understanding that she was not deserving of it. Such a shame. The other girls are so lovely… and i don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon. I’m in the industry. Smile. Pretend to be happy. What’s another 2 minutes of your life. Especially when your effecting your bosses...

Went to Jax for breakfast today, Let me just say it’s nothing special. Secondly we were treated Like second Class citizens. Firstly we got yelled at for asking for hot sauce, my gf gestured for 2 of them, only 1 arrived and delivered by the owner who yelled at us Because she brought one and had to grab another. The norm for hot sauce is the bottle, not here, they put it in tiny cups, too cheap to hand us the bottle, or maybe didn’t trust us so they portioned the hot sauce?! No, this isn’t the end, my gf and I had not seen one another for quite some time and my friend had a far drive to come and see Me to catch up over breakfast and a Coffee. No sooner was Breakfast done, we were Asked to pay the bill and leave Because they had a line up…. Well, we looked around once we were Told to leave and there was an empty table and no Line up! Just a very rude, unhappy owner who Charged Me 14.68 for 2 Scrambled eggs and a tiny bowl Of fruit and I had only 1 coffee. Which isn’t cheap but it was okay, until we were asked to leave the second we were done. I would not recommend nor would My friend as two 60+ year olds being treated like Children does not deserve another dime of my hard earned cash. I would Much rather support another small Dundas Business that values Me and my support. Thanks for reading and supporting my boycott of a rude owner that doesn’t deserve our business nor does she...

How the mighty have fallen.

When Jax first opened, it was reasonably priced and, when they started doing breakfast, it had large portions.

The prices of things like milkshakes have crept up over time and the portion sizes for the breakfast have shrunk considerably.

I went to Jax for breakfast about a month ago and we were the first people in the door. It took 45 minutes for bacon and eggs (scrambled) and an eggs Benedict. Potatoes were burnt on the outside and slightly raw in the middle. Certainly not worth the wait.

Hewitt's ice cream rocks but you might want to go across the road to the Horn of Plenty where they have Kawartha's

Edit: the other commenters reminded me about how awful the owner can be to her employees. Most of her employees are upbeat and very positive. Plus, if a cute girl moves a little slow when she is putting ice cream on a cone, most people don't care. I've heard horror stories from friends and friends of friends who have worked there, where they were yelled at on their first shift, despite not being trained properly, for not...
