I donāt come to the Golden Pita often, but I always enjoy it when I do.
However, I recently had an encounter with the owner that has made me nervous about returning. I ordered through Door Dash and was informed when picking it up that the restaurant is charged 30% for pick up orders through Door Dash. He seemed angry that I had dared to order this way when I had no way of knowing that they would be charged 30%. Also, I know (from ordering from other places via Door Dash) that the restaurant has the ability to turn off the ability to order Pick Up if they desire. Iāve come across Door Dash options that ONLY allow Delivery. Iāve also seen restaurants increase their prices on Door Dash to accommodate for this fee.
The owner told me, not asked me, next time to order by phone instead to avoid the charge. Very fair request, however, how it was done felt very accusative and demanding. Had he ASKED, rather than TOLD, I might do that in future. Unfortunately, I donāt think Iāll be back again soon. Other places have just as delicious food at frankly cheaper prices. I feel bad that this is now going to affect a small local business, but I know there are others who will be less hostile about a simple misunderstanding.
The interaction concluded with the owner telling me āgood luckā. I donāt know what this is supposed to mean, if this was a threat about my food or what. Iāve thrown it out now out of concern that heās done something to it.
To the owner: I do feel badly that you were charged. It was of course not my intention to put a 30% charge on you and had I known that that was the case I would have ordered by phone. Door Dash does not indicate what fees occur on your side. However, if you donāt like the fee being charged, donāt include your business on Door Dash or limit the option to Delivery only. OR charge a bit more to make up for this 30% charge, as other restaurants do. Donāt be angry at customers trying to give...

The atmosphere was completely off-puttingāan empty restaurant with a table of people sitting in the corner, staring as I entered, and no one greeted me. The girl at the front was unkind and very unprofessional, setting a terrible tone for the visit.
I later called to provide feedback, hoping for some accountability, but the same girl was dismissive and rude. It was clear they didnāt value their customers at all.
As for the food, it was just as disappointing. The rice wasnāt fully cooked, and when I asked about the vegetables, I was told they ādonāt have to be cooked,ā which was shocking. The portions were small for the price, and the lentil soup was cold, chunky, and not blended at all. There was absolutely no flavor in anything, making the meal as upsetting as the service.
Overall, the lack of care in both the food and the customer service made this an experience I wonāt...

at first I thought the prices were steep but they give you SO MUCH food it is insane the salad could be an entire meal of its own (I got the chicken shawarma platter)
-IT IS SEASONED!!!! the food is well seasoned not too spicy but if you like spice (I LOVE IT) get the hot sauce its fresh
-honestly during this covid time its hard for everyone and with out a doubt the girl in the front who was taking our orders was so kind it was kinda shocking because we had just left a different restaurant named montfort because they were charging 35$ for a simple platter and they were very rude LOL.
also whoever took these pictures are real terrible cuz honestly does not do it justice. I am from mississauga but trust me ancaster will see...
