Grandad's Donuts is a local favorite that specializes in freshly-made donuts. I visited Grandad's Donuts on the last day before they closed for renovations, and had a great experience overall. First off, the selection of donuts is fantastic. With many donuts to choose from, I had a hard time picking which flavors to try. Each donut is made fresh daily and you can tell that the ingredients are of high quality. I appreciate that the donuts were not greasy or heavy, and you could tell that they were made with care. The coffee was also good - not too strong or bitter, and just the right temperature. Adding milk and sugar gave it the perfect creamy sweetness that paired well with the donuts. The atmosphere of the shop was cozy and inviting, with friendly staff who were happy to help you make your selection. The decor was charming, with vintage signage and old-fashioned details that added to the overall ambiance. The only downside was that I visited on the last day before they closed for renovations so the space was a bit cramped. However, this did not detract from the overall experience and I can't wait to come back once the renovations are complete. Overall, Grandad's Donuts is a must-visit for any donut lover in Hamilton. The selection, quality, and atmosphere are all top-notch, and the friendly staff make the experience even better. I highly recommend giving Grandad's Donuts a try, and can't wait to come back for more donuts and coffee in the future

When in Hamilton, I always hear about how great Grandad's Donuts are. I have been in and out of Hamilton longer than they have been in their current location and I've not gone in at all—until now! True to what a lot of positive reviews are saying—I am hooked! To take it for a good run, I ordered 4 donuts: Apple Fritter, Sugar Twist, Orange Twist and an Old Fashioned Glazed. No, I didn't eat them all but took a big chunk out of each one. To my amazement, closer to noon, they were all still fresh! My teeth sunk joyfully in a cloud of freshness! Grandad's Donuts—you had me at my first bite of the Apple Fritter!! I'm not a big donut eater but this place is definitely the best donuts and worth going back to, time and time again! Keep up the great work and don't cut corners—people will come!

Went in here at 5:00pm today and they still had donuts left. It's an old school type donut shop. The staff were pretty casual, and told us what types of donuts were left. They cost $1.60 each, and the cream filled eclairs are $2.10. We picked up an Eclair, Dutchie, and Glazed donut. The size of all of them were just a bit bigger than Tim Horton's donuts. We wanted to eat at a table inside, especially since it was 17°F out, but all the tables were moved at an angle making it impossible to have a seat at them. I guess they start cleaning up the place at 5:00pm. As we ate the donuts off-site, we noticed the Eclair had very little taste to it--the whipped cream and chocolate topping tasted like nothing. The Dutchie tasted very doughy, with not many raisins in it. The Glazed donut was the best of the bunch, being moist and tasty. All in all, I wasn't that impressed with this place, and don't feel the premium price they put on the donuts is justified.

Since they’re reopening, the sizes of their donuts are a lot smaller, there isn’t as much filling and their prices are going up. I brought these concerns to staff and the owner’s attention a few times now and it has fallen on deaf ears. It appears that they’re complacent with what they’re serving customers because there “Grandads Donuts” They appear confident that customers will be blinded by the name and just ignore the decline of quality and consistency of there donuts. It’s arrogance such as this that tends to be the downfall of small companies especially when there’s so much competition out there. I think they’re underestimating the value of listening to their customers feedback. Grandads used to be a great place for donuts before the reopening. Sadly companies such as this will only learn when it affects their bottom line….

Puzzled initially by the amount of people lining up. Upon entering out of curiosity was surprised by the amount of fresh donuts being made on request. Special sale was on. A dozen donuts for $10. (taxes incl.) What we got was a mouth watering selection of the most delicious sweet filled pastries anyone could ask for. By far a confectioners delight of sugary selections in the most delectable and wonderful of enjoyment. Easily satiated the carnivorous mammals I naturally call my progeny in their fiercest of appetites. A must stop for anyone coming down to Hamilton, ON. Family, couples and stark raving mad hungry children. You will not be disappointed.

I think there are unfair bad reviews here just because there’s a wait right now. They are just re-opening after being closed for renovations for so long. Of course there’s lines out the door and long wait times. Just plan accordingly and know it will be a long wait. We went at 7:30 am today (Sunday) and there was a 40 minute wait, but it was all worth it. I love the new look and the staff were hard at work restocking donuts! The donuts are delicious as ever and they also never disappoint me with their coffee - it’s always a good cup! Congratulations Granddad’s on your re-opening! 🎉
