What a hidden gem beside Walmart in Waterdown! It was my first visit, and it didn’t disappoint. The owner was incredibly welcoming, greeting us with a complimentary hot pot of tea—a perfect start on a cold night. We began with the fresh shrimp rolls, a delightful combination of rice, bok choy, and shrimp wrapped in rice paper. While the peanut sauce was good, I highly recommend trying it with the hoisin sauce—a sweet and tangy Korean sauce that elevated the flavors beautifully. For mains, I had the stir fried egg noodles with mixed vegetables and shrimp. The portion was massive, with fivd or six large prawns and perfectly spiced, fresh ingredients. My dining partner opted for the Pad Thai with beef, which had a unique red sauce with a mild spice kick. Both dishes were flavorful, generous, and priced reasonably at $17 each. The freshness of the ingredients stood out, and we even had leftovers for lunch the next day. While the seating area could use a modern update, the food and hospitality made up for it. I’m definitely returning to explore more of the menu! Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic and fresh Vietnamese-Thai cuisine, or if you never tried this delicious cuisine, Give it a try! Update: we went back for more, this time we tried the beef rice roll, I prefer the shrimp one. For main course, I ordered the pad thai with shrimps and my wife ordered the stir fried egg noodles with mixed vegetables and beef. It was such satisfying choices.

This was my first time at this restaurant. My brother has been here a few times. The waitress gave us a menu and a note pad to write down what we want to order from the menu. She takes the menu from us. We handed the note pad that we wrote our order number and the description of the order from the menu. The waitress came to our table and put a pot of hot tea with tiny bowls to drink from. She gave us a glass of water and a can of classic coke each. I ordered large chicken soup with a variety of vegetables, noodles, salt, and pepper. It was very good and filling. They gave me a container to put my leftovers to take home. On the menu, they serve medium and large soup of our choice. On my next visit, I ordered pork and rice, including one egg, vegetables, and bread. My brother ordered chicken and rice with vegetables. It was served hot and delicious. This place is small. They do have tables with booths and chairs. They do have a restroom with Wheelchair Accessible Entrance. They have another restroom, for both male and female, to use. They do their best to keep them both clean. They do have parking at the front of their restaurant. They share the parking lot with other small stores, restaurants, Scotiabank, Walmart, etc..

Got them Sunday, Dec 5th , 2021. Ordered the house special which is to include Shrimp , Beef , Chicken and vegetables on a bed of noodles. There was 1 piece of shaved beef 1 small piece of chicken and 3 shrimp. MEAT lovers should avoid this stingy restaurant, you will be paying for just noodles for 15.99$. Called them to see what they could offer because of this dissatisfying meal. The lady argued with me (basically saying I was lying) , and then she offered a "sorry" .... I asked her what she was going to do about it? She said they weigh out and give the same amount to everyone. I then told her that , if this is what she serves everyone then that's extremely cheap. She said I should call her back later cause she's busy and said she won't do anything about either way...... This is legitimately my first time ever complaining about any restaurant , so no "Karen's " here. Avoid this place , horrible customer service and terrible quality !!!

Food was mediocre and customer service was hellish and pitiful. My girlfriend and I came in, sat down, and the server/owner came and gave us our menus. He never once offered us any water and we had to approach the counter to request it from him. We ordered our food and we noticed a table filled with children on tablets and phones and laptops playing games loudly and chaotically. It made the atmosphere rather depressing considering they were so young and just left there alone and babysat by electronics (I'm talking 5-6 year olds with these devices).

Anyway, back to the below average food. Our appetizer came which was the so-called vegetarian fresh cold rolls, and right away we noticed a questionable piece of what looked like meat but it was hard to tell whether it was meat or tofu, regardless, it just looked and tasted off. not to mention there was a hardened noodle in it. I asked the waitress if for their ingredients were fresh and she didn't really have an answer for me. We knew something was strange when she brought the fresh rolls out within two minutes of ordering them. They probably keep everything in plastic containers for days. We had to get the server to take it back and thankfully they did nix it from our bill. I had also ordered a can of Coke which I never ever received. At the end when we paid, he asked if he ever gave me my coke to which I answered "no", he then asked if I still wanted it. I said "no thanks, dinner's over" so he removed it from the bill as well.

I had ordered the pineapple curry chicken, which started out pretty decently. It's tasty, but suddenly when I took a bite I had chewed on something crunchy that broke into tinier pieces. I instantly freaked out and thought I bit into glass. Insoat it out, and scoured my plate for any more pieces and noticed more chunks of clear shards of what I believed to be glass. My girlfriend was equally as horrified. I beckoned the server/owner and he came and calmly said it was only rock sugar. I was relieved, but confused as there was a lot of it that didn't dissolve. Though it wasn't glass thankfully, I was still tense and cautious during the rest of my meal as biting down on that hurt my teeth.

To summarize, goddawful service and food was average at best. Sorry you have no better options, Waterdown, there are so many better places to get Vietnamese/Thai cuisine that will treat you like royalty with their service and food. Will not go back again and will never recommend...

My husband and I were regulars at Pho Nam Thanh up until a month or two ago until we've had a few bad experiences build up. One instance, my husband was home for lunch and I called to place our order early so we could sit and dine in. The owner said to me "Why? What's your rush you can't order here?", we thought that was pretty rude but we shrugged it off.

Another incident was we arrived there closer to later in the night on a weekday around 6:30 and as we finished our food we commented on how it was pretty quiet. The owner responded telling us "Yea, were waiting on you so we can go home." even though they were supposed to be open another couple of hours.

The next instance, we went and dined in and I forgot the number and name of the soup I usually order since I always just ask for "vegetable noodle soup". It's one of those menus with pages and pages of menu items with numbers that you have to right down on a form. You don't order directly to the server/owner.

We sat down and I asked him which number the soup was or the name of it on the menu. He told me the TomYum soup, so I ordered it. When it arrived I knew it wasn't the soup I usually order and said it wasn't the right one. He told me "Well that's what you ordered!" and continued to say this to me. Then pulled out our form we filled out, threw it down onto the table, pointed at what I had written and said "LOOK!"

We just decided to order the right one and he didn't comp us for the other soup. Which we said fine, well take it home and my husband will eat it tomorrow for lunch. We were pretty ticked off about it but we decided to go back again a week or two later.

I went to the washroom and while I was in the washroom, the server/owner brought the menus and the paper pad and told my husband "Make sure she orders the right one this time!" I came back and my husband said were leaving and were never coming back.

Ever since then we haven't been back. The food was always good but the service either went really awesome and they guy was super friendly or he was VERY rude...

This place does not deserve your business. I ate here yesterday after work around dinner dinner time. I was the only person eating in at the time. I read the reviews about the bad service but most people said the food was decent or good and was really craving pho so I gave it a chance. The owner told me to sit where I like and brought me the menu and order sheet. I filled it out and placed it on the side of my table. Strangely he walked over and started cleaning other tables next to me before taking my order to the kitchen. I have eaten at over 50 Vietnamese restaurants and this is the only time I was never offered tea or water. Also there were no napkins. Food came quickly brought out by a lady in the kitchen. The owner was sitting behind the cash taking the odd take out order and looking at his computer. Not once durning my meal did he come to ask about the food or if I needed anything. After finishing my meal and sitting there for a bit, it became clear he wasn't coming over so I went up to pay. I told him the food was ok but asked where there customer service is. I made it clear what my concerns were. At first he said ok thanks for letting me know but then he got defensive. He then said if I wanted water I should have got up and asked for it. According to him, he has run a restaurant for 25 years and this is how things work and I'm wrong for expecting to be checked on during a sit down dinner. I guess in that 25 years he's never eaten at another restaurant. I could completely understand a lack of service if it was crazy busy and he was there alone and I saw him working hard. This guy clearly just doesn't give a damn about his customers dining experience and does not deserve...
