Food was mediocre and customer service was hellish and pitiful. My girlfriend and I came in, sat down, and the server/owner came and gave us our menus. He never once offered us any water and we had to approach the counter to request it from him. We ordered our food and we noticed a table filled with children on tablets and phones and laptops playing games loudly and chaotically. It made the atmosphere rather depressing considering they were so young and just left there alone and babysat by electronics (I'm talking 5-6 year olds with these devices).
Anyway, back to the below average food. Our appetizer came which was the so-called vegetarian fresh cold rolls, and right away we noticed a questionable piece of what looked like meat but it was hard to tell whether it was meat or tofu, regardless, it just looked and tasted off. not to mention there was a hardened noodle in it. I asked the waitress if for their ingredients were fresh and she didn't really have an answer for me. We knew something was strange when she brought the fresh rolls out within two minutes of ordering them. They probably keep everything in plastic containers for days. We had to get the server to take it back and thankfully they did nix it from our bill. I had also ordered a can of Coke which I never ever received. At the end when we paid, he asked if he ever gave me my coke to which I answered "no", he then asked if I still wanted it. I said "no thanks, dinner's over" so he removed it from the bill as well.
I had ordered the pineapple curry chicken, which started out pretty decently. It's tasty, but suddenly when I took a bite I had chewed on something crunchy that broke into tinier pieces. I instantly freaked out and thought I bit into glass. Insoat it out, and scoured my plate for any more pieces and noticed more chunks of clear shards of what I believed to be glass. My girlfriend was equally as horrified. I beckoned the server/owner and he came and calmly said it was only rock sugar. I was relieved, but confused as there was a lot of it that didn't dissolve. Though it wasn't glass thankfully, I was still tense and cautious during the rest of my meal as biting down on that hurt my teeth.
To summarize, goddawful service and food was average at best. Sorry you have no better options, Waterdown, there are so many better places to get Vietnamese/Thai cuisine that will treat you like royalty with their service and food. Will not go back again and will never recommend...
Read moreMy husband and I were regulars at Pho Nam Thanh up until a month or two ago until we've had a few bad experiences build up. One instance, my husband was home for lunch and I called to place our order early so we could sit and dine in. The owner said to me "Why? What's your rush you can't order here?", we thought that was pretty rude but we shrugged it off.
Another incident was we arrived there closer to later in the night on a weekday around 6:30 and as we finished our food we commented on how it was pretty quiet. The owner responded telling us "Yea, were waiting on you so we can go home." even though they were supposed to be open another couple of hours.
The next instance, we went and dined in and I forgot the number and name of the soup I usually order since I always just ask for "vegetable noodle soup". It's one of those menus with pages and pages of menu items with numbers that you have to right down on a form. You don't order directly to the server/owner.
We sat down and I asked him which number the soup was or the name of it on the menu. He told me the TomYum soup, so I ordered it. When it arrived I knew it wasn't the soup I usually order and said it wasn't the right one. He told me "Well that's what you ordered!" and continued to say this to me. Then pulled out our form we filled out, threw it down onto the table, pointed at what I had written and said "LOOK!"
We just decided to order the right one and he didn't comp us for the other soup. Which we said fine, well take it home and my husband will eat it tomorrow for lunch. We were pretty ticked off about it but we decided to go back again a week or two later.
I went to the washroom and while I was in the washroom, the server/owner brought the menus and the paper pad and told my husband "Make sure she orders the right one this time!" I came back and my husband said were leaving and were never coming back.
Ever since then we haven't been back. The food was always good but the service either went really awesome and they guy was super friendly or he was VERY rude...
Read moreThis place does not deserve your business. I ate here yesterday after work around dinner dinner time. I was the only person eating in at the time. I read the reviews about the bad service but most people said the food was decent or good and was really craving pho so I gave it a chance. The owner told me to sit where I like and brought me the menu and order sheet. I filled it out and placed it on the side of my table. Strangely he walked over and started cleaning other tables next to me before taking my order to the kitchen. I have eaten at over 50 Vietnamese restaurants and this is the only time I was never offered tea or water. Also there were no napkins. Food came quickly brought out by a lady in the kitchen. The owner was sitting behind the cash taking the odd take out order and looking at his computer. Not once durning my meal did he come to ask about the food or if I needed anything. After finishing my meal and sitting there for a bit, it became clear he wasn't coming over so I went up to pay. I told him the food was ok but asked where there customer service is. I made it clear what my concerns were. At first he said ok thanks for letting me know but then he got defensive. He then said if I wanted water I should have got up and asked for it. According to him, he has run a restaurant for 25 years and this is how things work and I'm wrong for expecting to be checked on during a sit down dinner. I guess in that 25 years he's never eaten at another restaurant. I could completely understand a lack of service if it was crazy busy and he was there alone and I saw him working hard. This guy clearly just doesn't give a damn about his customers dining experience and does not deserve...
