june 3, 2022: rony's restauarant (RR) is a charcoal chicken middle east restaurant located at the southeast corner of barton and grays rd in stoney creek.
i saw this place a few weeks ago by happenstance, so i put it on my radar. from my research RR has been in motion for at least 5 years.
restaurant inside is modern, hip, clean and spacious relative to its size. open concept so you can see your order being built.
staff were very polite and friendly, and working very hard to get the customer orders out the door. i was there after 5pm, so it was getting quite busy with people coming in. rony himself was live on location, rolling up his sleeves and helping the staff.
i ended up ordering: 1 chicken wrap 1 rony's special 1 chicken platter
chicken wrap: their signature menu item. it looks small at first, but is jam packed with mainly chicken. the wrap is well constructed, i ate it in my car in the parking lot, and no dripping or spilled food. it comes to $12.03 all-in.
a bit pricey but you can't argue with the quality. you do get quite a bit of food with this item, as it is predominantly chicken content. pita bread was excellent; clean and not greasy.
i have never seen or tasted a chicken wrap like this, you really need to see and taste it to believe it.🔥
rony's special: $13.58 all-in. (meaning after tax) portion was not the best size. quality again was excellent, it is rice combined with chicken, sauce and potatoes. i would order this again, to pair with a wrap.
chicken platter: $13.24 all-in. chicken, rice, sauces and 2 cold sides; i took potatoes and coleslaw. portion size was small again relative to price. quality of all ingredients was excellent. i would prob pass on this item next time because of portion size.
other comments: -rony advises to phone in advance (3 reasons): 1- if you know what you want. this place can get extremely busy, so if you don't want to wait 15-30 minutes, make that quick phone call. 2- be advised they may run out of items before closing time. 3- make sure they are open.
-ingredients such as the chicken and yogurt sauces take a lot of time behind the scenes to make, so that explains for a bit higher price.
-food quality is excellent, however i found portion size to be smaller than expected relative to price charged.
one star knocked off for the combined observations: -no evening hours. -no weekend hours (due to covid at the time of review.) -occasionally may close early on fridays. -website really needs to be updated. disorganized information throughout several sections, and the menu on the website is not symmetrical with the menu offerings in the store.
june 6, 2022: rony's runs a 3 for 1 deal on mondays. buy 3 items off the wrap and plate menu section, and get your 4th item free. you can mix and match, if you wish.
i grabbed 4 chicken wraps came out to $36.10 all-in. regular price would be $48.13 all-in. it's an excellent deal, for a fanastic chicken shawarma.
sept 16, 2022: i stopped by as i was in the area. rony's chicken wrap continues to be their signature item on the menu. great tasting, well constructed pita wrap. staff were polite and efficient with customer orders.
bottom line: i would return to rony's to try other menu items and would continue with the rony's special and the chicken wrap.
i would recommend rony's to...
Read moreI have been a regular at Rony's Charcoal Chicken for quite some time now. Their smoky, flavorful chicken has always satisfied my cravings, making it my go-to lunch spot. However, my recent dining experience left me with mixed feelings. While I appreciate their dedication to saucy dishes, this time it was taken to an extreme.
As a self-proclaimed "sauce guy," I usually enjoy a generous drizzle of sauce on my food. But on this particular visit, the chicken was practically swimming in sauce. The charcoal flavor that I crave was almost completely masked, leaving me disappointed. It's worth noting that as someone who weighs 250 pounds, I rarely ever toss out food, but I felt compelled to discard a significant portion of my meal due to the overwhelming sauciness.
Now, don't get me wrong—I do appreciate Rony's Charcoal Chicken's commitment to bold flavors and experimentation. In the past, their sauces have always complemented the smokiness of the chicken, striking a perfect balance. However, this time, the excessive sauce overpowered the natural taste of the charcoal-grilled chicken that I had come to love.
I understand that taste preferences can vary, and some customers might enjoy a saucier dish. However, it would be great if Rony's Charcoal Chicken could offer a range of saucing options, allowing customers to customize the level of sauciness to their liking. This way, those who prefer a more pronounced charcoal flavor can enjoy their meal without feeling overwhelmed by the sauce.
Despite this disappointing experience, I want to emphasize that Rony's Charcoal Chicken has been a reliable and delicious lunch spot for me in the past. Their commitment to quality ingredients and skilled grilling techniques have consistently delivered flavorful meals. I hope this recent experience was an anomaly, and they can return to the fantastic balance of flavors that initially won me over.
I look forward to giving Rony's Charcoal Chicken another chance in the future, hoping that the next visit will bring back the mouthwatering charcoal taste that I've come to associate with this...
Read moreUsed to like this restaurant until yesterday when I drove an hour to get there and when I arrived (the door was literally wide open) and tried to place my order they told me they were closed (despite the fact the restaurant closes at 8pm and it was not 8pm) because they were out of chicken. Kind of crazy that a rotisserie chicken restaurant couldn't sell me chicken. So I mean I guess if you want to waste time and money driving to a restaurant that may or may not have food to sell you then this place is for you. Personally I don't have time to travel to a restaurant where being able to purchase food is a toss up. Looking at the negatives reviews this is apparently a common occurrence. When other restaurants are open but unable to serve you they usually compensate the customer in some way. Spoke to the manager and no attempt at resolution was made by him.
Edit: You definitely made no attempt at resolution since you were too busy making excuses for why you couldn't serve me during your business hours. Maybe this happens so often that you are confusing me with someone else but I'm not a malicious person that would lie about poor customer service if you made an effort to make things right (which is what you're claiming happened if you say you offered me anything after I said that you did not). I guess you ALWAYS look after your customers except for this time. To be honest, I don't want anything from you but it would have been a nice gesture for wasting my time and gas. Now on top of everything you're basically...
