My Grandmother was in Canada for Easter, we went for brunch here. I have food allergies, namely gluten and dairy. Because of that, dining out can be challenging. With that in mind along with my background in the restaurant industry i try my best to ask the right questions and find something easy that i can enjoy. That being said, breakfast is usually a breeze anywhere. That's why we chose to venture to someplace new; in the town my mother just moved to. No matter what, there will always be a dish composed of eggs done to your preference, with a meat product and usually hash browns and toast. I can order this ANYWHERE. It's as simple as asking two questions. First i ask if the hash is done in the deep fryer or not, and if so can they be done in a pan? if not, i can just forgo them along with the toast and ask for a fruit bowl instead. So as the server delivered our drinks, i informed her "hey by the way, can you let the chef know i have a gluten and a dairy allergy" as i always do, and asked the hash brown question. she told me they were not deep fried but done on the grill. i said great thank you! Before taking our order she went back and did inform the chef. She came back to take everyone's order and said the chef for "liability reasons" would like to suggest you order a salad off our lunch menu, and hands me the lunch menu. first of all...wow... it would have been as simple as pulling a clean skillet out and cooking my breakfast in it with oil/spray/dry. If you couldn't do the hash, so be it, i would have took just an order of bacon itself, but i wasn't even given the option? You just didn't want to cook for me? Im just a liability to you? that was really rude! My Grandmother isn't here often and this was just such a disappointment and an insult. I hope you did this from a lack of knowledge and an abundance of fearful ignorance, and not out of sheer laziness, but don't worry, i wont be back...
Read moreThe ONE Mom & Pop restaurant in a sea of franchises at the Ancaster Wal-Mart Supercentre, it's always busy so I figured I'd check it out. I got the French Toast Special (eggs & 3 each Bacon, Ham, Sausage---yep, 9 chunks of meat) and 2 pieces of my fave; French Toast. My Chai tea came in a little teapot so I could add my own sugar (I prefer this) and moments later my hefty meal arrived...faster than any 'fast food' I've ever had but prob takes longer on busy days. It's a serious thing when breakfast is on 2 plates---both big plates!
Like eating at your Mom's on a weekend, and tastes probably as good. Everything was well cooked, and although it was huge, the deliciousness pulled me through and I finished it. Price is mid range for a diner, mine approx $20, average $12-$18 They have Omlettes, Eggs Benedict, typical morning fare plus a lunch menu with more; and breakfast is all day until close (4pm)
Place is clean and well kept, service snappy & friendly. There's Wi-Fi to entertain yourself a few minutes while your belly settles... Nice place for family brunch, quick workday lunch or solo pig-out like me. I couldn't afford to eat here all the time but check it out if you're hungry for more than fast food...
Read moreI have dined at Sammy’s over the years. Sammy’s gets good reviews because generally it’s authentically good home cooking. You might wonder why I would write a review that’s more critical if all the other times were good. It’s because I don’t want their standards to slip. This feedback is for them. I had breakfast there this week and ordered scrambled eggs with bacon, toast and fried tomatoes. The scrambled eggs were burnt. They had the texture of eggs that have been sitting in a warming tray. Not light and fluffy as if they were custom made to order. Brown on the bottom and heavy. The fried tomato Was tasteless. Did not seem to have been fraud in butter for one thing. Five dollars for the tomato. Why did I order it? because it’s always been the tastiest thing on the menu. Not this time. Granted, grocery tomatoes, usually taste like cardboard in the winter. I told the waitress my eggs were burnt, and all she could offer was, “the owners are away on holiday.” I’m sorry, but standards should not slip because the owner’s away. The price on the menu certainly didn’t change. It was a lousy breakfast experience for $17. I am hoping this was an aberration because it’s a good little business and I previously enjoyed...
