Excellent! As an Edmontonian who actually lived in China for more than 12 years, I fully expected "westernized" Chinese food, which is absolutely NOTHING like real mainland Chinese food. Amazing Wok was so different!! The food was not only delicious, but also very much traditionally prepared. A genuine treat!
However, there is another aspect of REAL Chinese restaurants some people wont like. And that is the service style. Unlike western restaurants, in China, every dish does NOT come at the same time. This is standard practice due to the cooking style. To have every dish served at the same time, with multiple tables and orders, the cooks would need 20 Woks going at any given time. It would not work. Instead you can expect to receive your drinks and a thermos of rice first, then over the course of a couple hours they will bring the dishes, 1 or 2 at a time, to your table. Depending on how much food you ordered of course. This is not poor service or rudeness, it is literally how it is done in a true Chinese restaurant. That way you don't have 10 dishes sitting on the table at once going cold.
So if you want "Western Service". with all your dishes hitting the table at once, please go to a Westernized Chinese restaurant where you are essentially eating Chinese fast food. 80% deep fried and covered in syrupy sauces... Yuk! I personally don't mind waiting for individual dishes because A: You always get a hot and freshly made dish of food and B: It is an honest to goodness Chinese restaurant tradition, not poor customer service.
I for one was absolutely happy with the service and will absolutely go back again! Well done...
Read moreWe came back to this restaurant with our friends as foods here tasted good the 1st time we went. Unfortunately, we encountered several issues tonight.
The server was nice, and the foods taste great as expected until one of our kids saw hair from the fried rice on his plate. When we found a second one on a dish plate, we decided to let the server know, and they showed it to the cook. The server apologized to us. We accepted it even if it wasn’t seem to be a big deal for them. That was the 1st issue.
Second issue was, after we paid and we were waiting for the dessert of our kids, the cashier called us and she said that she messed up with the bill. She gave the bill of the other table to us. So we fixed it and paid whatever we owed.
Third issue was when I followed up our dessert of 2 ice cream and the cashier said I need to pay for it again because she did not bill it to us. I said just cancel it because we waited long enough for it, I already paid which we thought the OVERALL bill and our companions were ready to go. I was also advised lastly that the crackers we added weren’t billed TOO yet even though the cashier already asked us to settle our bill. We came back at the front 3 times to pay bills repeatedly. It was confusing and hassle for us as we have kids with us.
Foods are satisfactory but our experience tonight is not good knowing that they didn’t really bother about the hair that we have seen and billing...
Read moreI’ve heard and read many mixed reviews about Amazing Wok, but tonight I decided to give it a try. I am grateful I did!
I ordered take out over the phone and the lady on the other end was courteous and helpful. Upon arriving and paying (side note, I am thankful they accept AMEX), the server handed me my food from inside an insulated bag. I appreciated the attention to detail in aiming to keep it warm.
I ordered the Combination for 1, combo A that came with wonton soup, chicken/egg fried rice, chicken and veggies, chicken balls and sweet and sour pork. I can’t help but rave that the food quality and flavour were exactly what I was craving. The rice had a delicious wok-hay flavour and aroma, the chicken and veggies were seasoned perfectly to my liking (savoury and well-salted) as well as having the veggies be super fresh, the sweet and sour pork also looked to be prepared fresh, and the chicken balls we’re hot and crispy, tasting even better paired with the sweet and sour sauce they had on the side. The wonton soup was the item I would likely pass on in the future, as though the veggies were fresh and the wontons looked to be homemade, I did not find the broth particularly flavourful, and almost watery to my tastes. Whatever though, the rest of the meal was exactly what I wanted, and I will be looking forward to trying more of their...
