We came to Edmonton for an event, selecting this hotel for its proximity to the highway. The location is convenient while still quiet. The parking lot was ample, we brought a trailer and had loads of space. Check in was simple, and staff was friendly and professional, even figuring out an issue with our rewards account. One issue is congestion, as pool access is across the lobby from the elevators, and pool towels are at reception. So any business at front desk was spent dodging children and navigating wet floors. The room was spacious and clean, save for sand in the sheets of the pull out couch. By the time we made that bed it was too late to bother staff. (We left the pullout open and stripped the sheets just in case, so it wouldn't happen to the next person.) We swept it out and found nothing else amiss. Loads of tv channels, good wifi signal (though had to re-log in every 24 hours), lots of space with cupboards and counters around the fridge/microwave "kitchenette". Bathroom was well done with a nice showerhead, and a tall sink faucet. Darkness/daylight is an issue. The curtain setup does not make it to the wall to prevent light coming in the edges, the darkening panels are not thick enough or long enough, and the sheers were completely missing. I used the couch cushions to try and seal as best I could but my photo is the amount of light at 7am. Breakfast was good, your standard rotating hot fare (1 meat protein, eggs done 1 way, potatoes, toasts, yogurts, waffle maker). We enjoyed sausages and omelettes one day, sausage and scrambled the next. The breakfast was BUSY with loads of families though. The tables and chairs are huge which fills the space too fast and once seated you can't get between tables. The staff did their best to keep up with demand, being run off their feet at peak times. Sunday a lot of items were out of stock, before it could be refilled something else was out. Additional staff for a full-booked weekend could help (though I know these days everyone is understaffed). They were friendly and when they had a lull they were cleaning. The pool was awesome, quite warm. Shallow enough for adults to assist kids without having to be deeper than the waist if you don’t want to. The seating area had either been placed or moved by patrons right into the shower area, so no one was showering prior to entering. Both the waterslide and hot tub were in fine working order every time we looked. We didn't use it but a quick peek into the guest laundry showed one each regular size washer and dryer, $2 per load in each. Large counter to fold on but tight space. The business centre was well lit, one desktop machine and printer with desk space to bring your own laptop. Blinds that covered windows to the hallways if you wished for an aquarium feel. Final note is the vending machines-very reasonable prices and great selection. Ice on every floor too. Overall I think great value...
Read moreI travelled to Edmonton at least once a month and I stay in a hotel. This was the first experience that I’ve stayed at the best Western when I booked the room the price was pretty reasonable until I got to the hotel. There was a free breakfast and the free breakfast was OK like if there was more room for people to stand and wait for their food that would be more ideal, but because it was so crowded, everybody was bumping into each other and food was falling on the floor and such and most of the food steamers were empty. and you had to wait a long time for them to fill it up by that time. Everybody was so frustrated that they just left. The first night sleeping in the room was OK until the afternoon I started scratching and all of a sudden these reddish bumps in a line were on my body. I checked the bed. I didn’t see anything but the next time I slept in the room I got more bug bites so I am assuming that there are bedbugs in the Bed at the best western and I am satisfied with this because I have never ever experienced bedbug bites until I have stayed at the best western. I am utterly disgusted with the service with the cleanliness with everything about it even the pool had sand in it it was not cleaned , there’s too many kids in there too many injuries and there’s nobody there to rectify the rules of the pool . The towels in the pool were always empty and nobody came to refill them. I had to run outside to the front desk to ask for towels, and then they proceeded to tell me that they were in the dryer. I find a very hard to believe staying in a hotel that you run out of towels, I have called the best western and they are unable to give me a refund for the bedbugs in the bed and I said really is that how you guys deal with things and how you want people to come back to your hotel I said that’s fine. I will let everybody know especially a Google review for everybody to see publicly that the best western on Ellersie Road 1204 101 Street Edmonton. HasBEDBUGS! Do...
Read moreI wish I could rate this hotel higher, however, one particular staff member was so unfriendly and difficult to approach that I can only give it 2 stars, and recommend you stay at the Sandman which is in the same parking lot.
We arrived at the hotel at 2:52 PM, and as I entered the lobby, kid and suitcase in tow, the woman behind the desk, Ingrid, did not greet me, but rather abruptly stated that check in was 4 PM. No hello, happy to see you, thank you for choosing Best Western, just barked at me that check on was 4 PM. I asked if she could check to see of our room was available, but was told it wasn't. I then inquired about the email I received regarding the last minute rate change, and she very rudely informed me that our contract required a minimum number of bookings to get the special rate, and she could not do anything about it. She did not seem at all concerned about my satisfaction. You can imagine my surprise when I spoke with another member of our group who booked last minute without using our group code, and discovered she was paying a substantially lower rate than the rest of us. In fact, the rate was lower than our original group booking rate, so I find it very difficult to understand why she was so annoyed and bothered at my inquiry.
As for the rest of the stay, the waterside is great for the kids, but the pool is small and the hot tub was not really hot. Our room smelled like it had just been painted, the carpet was lifted, and the wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling.
The house keeping staff was very friendly, however there was a towel shortage for the entirety of our stay.
The complimentary breakfast was pretty standard, and all day complimentary coffee in the lobby was nice.
I will say it again, avoid the horrendous customer service and terrible attitude you will get with Ingrid, and stay at the...
