A&W Canada — Restaurant in Hope

I arrived at this A&W location around 9-ish in the morning, hoping to grab a quick breakfast. What I encountered left me feeling quite disgruntled. There were 4-5 cars being served in the drive-thru line, which seemed efficient enough, but what about those of us inside the restaurant? None of the employees were at the front counter to assist us.

As I surveyed the scene, I couldn't help but notice that multiple tables had dirty trays left on them, making the place look rather messy. It was clear that cleanliness wasn't a top priority.

When I finally got to place my order, the service was as impersonal as it gets. I ordered a basic breakfast sandwich and expected a quick turnaround, but that wasn't the case. It took a whopping 9 minutes for my order to be prepared, and to make matters worse, they got it wrong.

But the icing on the cake was the fact that I had to stand at the front counter for 8 minutes before I was served. It felt like an eternity, and I was left wondering if I should've just gone through the drive-thru instead.

If you're a fan of A&W, my advice is to ensure you have plenty of time on your hands if you plan on dining in. This experience left a sour taste in my mouth, both figuratively...

Always something. Sometimes they're close when usually open, sometimes close early, most times it's expensively long waits for simple orders, stock and just not offering the stuff A&W banked on for decades. Although, it is very clean... Need older staff around, or older customers to consult with them on the usual favorites. Wound up backing out the drive-thru, and moving on. Done with this place. Went in and nobody was inside except me. New day... Ordered breakfast for 2, and because it was 15mins or so of waiting, I went to the counter and noticed the lady was packaging 2 breakfast meals that I didn't order. So, she served customers that ordered after me, and that pi$$ed me off, because my order popped up afterwards. While my order gets cold, she delivered order to others, instead of handing mine over first, so I decided to just leave without getting my money back. This is common at this a&w, and I've had enough of this type of customer service. Home restaurant is next, because I'm with this place. This place lost another regular customer and would be more than happy to drive to Chilliwack...

I typically love A&W, I would choose to go there over MacDonalds, Burger King or any of the other fast food chains. This one location in Hope, is terrible. We waited 20 minutes for a simple order of two burgers, when we got them they were over cooked.

It was interesting to watch the employees work because the guy putting the burgers together was making one at a time, and so everyone was just waiting for him.

The guy running the register, who I think was the manager wasn't trying to step in and change anything, he wasn't even saying anything, just stood and watched.

For those reading this that don't know, you can make multiple burgers at once, and therefore be a bit quicker. If you prep you buns in a row, you can hit them with all the condiments and toppings at the same time, really speeds up the process.

I was not the only frustrated customer. Will probably go somewhere else next time we pass...
