Well our experience here, was not enjoyable like almost everyone says theirs was. First the price for the small portions was disappointing. If the food had been good, it would not have been a problem, but it wasnt. Had the Gyoza, it was ok, typical fried gyoza but the ponzu sauce was terrible, it tasted like vinegar. Tempura was ok, regular tempura (bit pricey). The miso soup again normal miso, but the portion size was incredibly small, unbelievably small. Now the California rolls (my husbands fav at any sushi restaurant) were not good, they tasted like they had sugar or some kind of sweetener added to it. My hubby would not eat them, thats a first. The Chicken Teriyaki was the saddest part of the meal. I love Chicken teriyaki. The price $16.95. It came with a tiny miso soup a small amount of rice, a small plop of salad and the smallest portion of chicken teriyaki. If the chicken was sliced any thinner, I would have said it was lunch meat, maybe it was, it was so salty that is was pretty much inedible. The cabbage was also very salty. I say cabbage cause I dont think there was any other veggie in this teriyaki, maybe some onion. The sauce was also salty and very limited, only a bit on the chicken. . The entire meal experience was very disappointing for an establishment that people rate so high. Am I missing something?? I do not recommend this restaurant and I am totally for shopping/eating local, but come on, for the price you should get something decent that you will at least finish, not something that makes you never want to eat Sushi again. At least...

I recently discovered Kobo Japanese Grill & Cafe, and I can't believe it's been around for 25 years without me knowing! Tucked away in Hope, this place is truly a hidden gem. I was immediately impressed by the exceptional service and delicious food, both of which deserve a solid 5 stars.
The atmosphere might not be the most glamorous, but it's completely fine, and the incredible food more than makes up for it. My dining experience here was fantastic. I started with the prawn tempura, which was fresh and had a perfect, light batter. The dumplings, or gyoza, were amazing – full of flavor and just the right texture. The sushi rolls were incredibly fresh, showcasing the quality of ingredients they use. I also enjoyed an Asahi Japanese beer, which was a great complement to the meal.
One of the standout features of Kobo is the speed of their food preparation. Everything came out super fast, yet the quality was top-notch. The owners are lovely people, making the experience even more enjoyable. The outdoor patio seating is a nice touch, especially on a pleasant day.
After years of passing through Hope and being disappointed with the local restaurant options, I'm thrilled to have found Kobo Japanese Grill & Cafe. It’s a place I will definitely be returning to many times. If you're ever in Hope, do yourself a favor and visit this fantastic spot. You...
Read moreVery cute place, not very good food. In my opinion, the happy course for 2 was far from happy. The tempura tasted like old oil and mainly had potatoe as vegetable. The happy course was advertised as containing 3 types of rolls. They were all the same with lots of fake crab as a filler. We mentioned that point and the server was quick to list the ingredients for each roll, pointing out the slight variations but that just emphasized they were basically the same and not very good. I felt rushed during the whole meal, especially when the famous deep fried bananas offered for dessert showed up on the table when we were not even through half our meal. We we're charged $5 extra to get gomae instead of one miso soup and that would have been fine if the meal had been good. The Happy meal is not a deal. It's a filler for tourists and a money maker for the business. Hope this reviews helps...
