We visited during the opening week and were excited to try this new location, as we’ve always enjoyed the Southside and Whyte Ave branches. There’s definitely potential here, but a few things could use improvement as they settle in.
We ordered: Fried dumplings – 7/10 Kimchi Jjigae – 10/10 Galbi – 8/10 Tteok-bokki – 9/10 Bossam – 5/10 Rice Bibimbap – 3/10
We were seated quickly, which was great, but we weren’t offered water or drinks right away. After placing our order (including drinks), it took about 15 minutes before anything arrived—even water—and only after we asked a second time.
Most of our food came out in a timely manner, but our bossam and bibimbap were delayed. We noticed another table that was seated after us received their bossam before we did. We had to follow up with the server, and eventually a bossam that had been sitting on the counter for a while was brought to us, was a bit oily since its been sitting out. We were told there were issues with the expo printer, which we understand can happen during a new opening.
Lastly, the rice bibimbap, which was the final item to arrive, was quite bland compared to the other dishes. Given how well-seasoned and flavorful everything else was, this was a bit of a letdown.
A supervisor (I assume) did come by to check if we had received all of our food, which we appreciated.
Overall, despite the hiccups, the majority of the dishes were delicious and the staff was polite. I understand it’s the first week and things may still be getting smoothed out. I’m rooting for this location and hope to see it improve over time. I’m leaving a 3-star review, not because the experience was bad, but because I know there’s room to grow—and I really want this...
Read moreOur servers tonight, Cheska and Joela (hopefully i spelled that right) were both very sweet and friendly throughout! Food was great.
Unfortunately they had to deal with a pair of women that treated them horribly, despite this they handled it very gracefully. I hope that the grown lady who caused a scene and scolded these two girls is ashamed of herself because that was quite infuriating to witness. Knowing they might get in trouble because a customer blew something way out of proportion is angering. Being in the service industry is hard enough, they were wonderful to our table and the surrounding tables around us. Hoping the manager sees this review, as a big group who witnessed the situation happen, they didn't do anything wrong.
For context, the customer was angry because she went through the WRONG door that clearly states to use the front door. The waitress then let her know to use the other door (very clearly NOT yelling) and this set the customer off. Who then proceeded to degrade the two waitresses, essentially saying that they "need to be friendly" because they are "on that side for a reason". Just an insane amount of entitlement on this woman as she was borderline bullying/demeaning these poor girls.
That being said they got a good tip from us as they were absolutely lovely! Will be...
Read moreHappy to have more Korean options in the west end. Even better that they took over this location from that shoddy pizza place.
My experience at Hanjan was poor at the start but vastly improved by the end of our evening. Wobbly table, booth seat with repair patches were odd to see for a newly opened restaurant. Service was spotty although it wasn't busy at the time (2-3 other tables seated) and we had our water refill requests forgotten a few times. Also our fried chicken order was forgotten. Of the 3 different servers we had, one waitress was genuinely apologetic and even provided us with a discount for the troubles. This was a greatly appreciated goodwill gesture that needs to happen more often in my opinion. It really showed her sincerity and dedication to making sure her customers are happy. Thank you!
As for our food, very flavourful from our salad to desserts. Portions to prices could be better, $9 cucumber salad felt more like it could have been a side dish. No fountain soda, so it's $3 for a can 😞
Probably the best bulgogi I've eaten in forever. Fried chicken was perfect and boneless! The highlight of the night were the desserts though, mango bingsu and the honey butter bread, worth every penny! I'd recommend checking out...
