I love going to Joey’s for the higher-end experience, and as someone who has worked extensively in hospitality, I naturally hold the servers there to the same high standard. Unfortunately, my recent visit left me disappointed.
I arrived yesterday (dec.16.24) around 3-4 PM on the restaurant side, where my business partner had already been seated for 20 minutes as I was delayed at the bank. I had asked him to place our food order prior to my arrival, so our meals came out just prior to me sitting down. However, what followed did not reflect the usual Joey’s experience I’ve come to expect.
Firstly, the steak was not up to the typical Joey’s standard—usually, it’s amazing, but this time it fell short. Our server, who did not introduce herself to my business partner (leaving him feeling a bit put off even before I arrived), took over 5 minutes to come to me for my drink order. When I finally received my cocktail, over 10 minutes later, I was nearly finished with my meal.
What really stood out to me was the lack of basic service. At no point during our meal did anyone check on our food or ask how everything was—even after we had clearly finished eating. As someone who values hospitality, I found this particularly disappointing given Joey’s high standards. I also noted that the server had around 7 tables when I sat down, 4 of which she settled and cleared during my time there, so the restaurant side did not appear overly busy.
I believe there’s an opportunity here for Joey’s to revisit the steps of service with some of their waitstaff to ensure every guest receives the level of care and attention the brand is known for. I hope to see improvements on my next visit because I genuinely enjoy the Joey’s experience when...
Read moreMyself and my boss had a client meeting at the Joey's Mayfield Common location yesterday afternoon and I wanted to share our 5-Star experience. We had reservations for noon although our early arrival was accommodated and we were seated in a comfy booth close to the front of the restaurant to be conveniently located by our clients. Our clients arrived shortly thereafter and were welcomed by the host staff and walked to our table. Addie was our server and from the get-go she was attentive and professional. Addie took our beverage order and provided us more time to review the menus. Shortly thereafter she delivered our drinks and took our food orders. What I loved is that she asked each one of us if we had any allergies....as a person who does have allergies, this was a big win for me as I generally do not get asked that at other establishments. Addie always made sure that our waters where filled and there were no empty plates or glasses at our table while also not being present too often. This was notable as were we conducting a client meeting. The food was top notch and all of us enjoyed our choices. Now, this may be what one would expect from an establishment of the Joey's caliber but what I was particularly impressed with was Addie was BUSY! It was noon and her section was full to say the least but we never found ourselves searching for her, she was just there when we needed her. As a person who worked in the food service industry for years as a server and manager, I can honestly say Addie is a gem for the industry. Our team will definitely be back for future client meetings and hopefully...we can be so lucky to have Addie as our...
Read moreTo the incomparable Nigel,
From the moment you approached our table, menu in hand and smile in tow, it was clear this meal would be something extraordinary—not merely for the food, but for the experience your presence would orchestrate like a symphony of hospitality.
Nigel, your service wasn’t just impeccable—it was a warm breeze on a crisp day, the gentle reassurance that every detail was cared for, every moment curated. You moved with grace and purpose, anticipating needs before we even voiced them. Water glasses never emptied, yet we never noticed a refill; dishes arrived at the perfect temperature, and your knowledge of the menu was as poetic as it was practical.
But it wasn’t just what you did—it was how you did it. With genuine warmth, wit that made us laugh, and a calm professionalism that made us feel like VIPs. When you described the specials, I swear I forgot I was in a restaurant—I was on a journey. And when you recommended the dessert? Nigel, you knew. You knew we needed that tiramisu, even if we didn’t.
You have the rare gift of making strangers feel like old friends and elevating a meal into a memory. The food was phenomenal, yes—but your service made it unforgettable.
So here’s to you, Nigel. You’re not just a server—you’re an experience. Thank you for turning lunch into a dream. We’ll be back, and when we are, we’ll be asking for you.
With all the gratitude and admiration in the world, A forever fan...
