Legit Dim Sum in Edmonton brought to your table by the ladies with the carts. The pandemic kind of ruined the rolling carts with dim sum choices, but Jumbo has stuck with tradition. Prices are on par with most of Edmonton for Dim Sum dishes. They're around $7-$8 a dish. Portion sizes are slightly inconsistent, but for the most part, you do get a reasonable portion for most items. The food was hot, tasty, the carts kept coming by with choices. It is the standard fare. We ordered beef rice rolls, wor tip dumplings, har gow, black bean chicken feet, chicken satay skewers, curry squid, shrimp cakes, crunchy shrimp dumplings with sweet mayo. Nothing exotic except for dessert doughnuts that remind me of Portuguese sonhos. It was busy, but we got a number and waited about 20 mins. We snuck over to the Visions and wandered for the first 10 mins. We got parking in the main lot in front of the restaurant . There is also street parking. Service was consistent and steady. There is always someone coming over to clear the empty dishes and fill your water/tea pot. Overall, we were very happy with this dim sum experience. It is honestly better than Beijing, Beijing and Golden Rice Bowl on the Southside. If we lived closer, I would pick Jumbo over the other two, hands down. The only place we haven't tried post pandemic is Emperor's Palace. So far, Jumbo is my top pick for dim sum in Edmonton. The cart ladies have photos and the English names of the dishes and most of them speak very good English if you're worried about trying to...
Read moreThe restaurant was quite delightful and very comfortable and clean. However, the service we received was bordering terrible and the atmosphere that the staff created was horrible.
When our waitress came to the table, we were never given a drink menu or told what drink options there were (which is fine, we only get water anyways!) and instead of allowing us to hold the visual menu to see the options and have a few minutes to choose; she stood beside the table holding the menu in front of us and not allowing anyone to take it from her hands. She then rushed us to order something and we were stuck with several items we didn’t actually want but she pressured items to order and after that commented on us “ordering too much.”
When we received the food, most of it was indeed good but again, majority of it was not what we had wanted and felt pressured into ordering and weren’t given sauces for. We packed up most of our food, as we generally felt unwelcome in the establishment and uncomfortable staying, and told our waitress that the only item we had not packed up to go, a curried squid, was overcooked so we wouldn’t be taking it and all she said was “oh.” We were not offered any bill changes, which I guess I can understand.
However, for $90+, I’d rather stay home than be pressured by my waitress and repetitively reminded of my “too big order” that was shared between two people. This was a shame because it was incredibly well recommended as the best place in Edmonton for Dim Sum, perhaps...
Read moreJumbo Dim Sum Dining has been for a long, long time. I remember coming here when I was young, on a school trip, but hadn't been back since.
Recently returned with my husband. We were seated right away and given tea and a small fillable paper with the different dish price categories on there. You don't have to do anything except leave that paper there, easily accessible to the server. There is no menu but rather when the food carts come around, the majority do have photos of the dishes with the name of the dish in English also written. The one negative is that there are no prices written, but if you are curious to know the price of each dish beforehand, their dim sum menu is available on their website with names and prices (no photos).
Servers bring the food carts around very often and are very attentive. Once the server gives you a dish, they will initial the small fillable paper in the appropriate price category. Pay attention as it adds up quick!
We tried the veggie and pork dumplings, crispy shrimp wontons, sesame balls with red bean, beef tripe, steamed shrimp dumplings, sticky rice, and some kind of shrimp patty. All was so good! There was much more that we didn't try. I would definitely go back but with maybe a group of 4 so we could try more things.
The restaurant is clean and quite large. Service was excellent. We were in and out in just...
