Tokyo Express — Restaurant in Jasper Place

March 26 2021 Edit: I took management up on their offer and decided to try out the food again. While I was never once requested to change my review; I felt it was important to update my experience as it is very clear the new owners making efforts to improve the business. This time around I was very impressed with portion sizes. One thing to note is how delicious their sushi rice is. It’s not just good - they make incredibly tasty sushi rice! It’s so good. The texture is perfect and fluffy. Weird as it sounds, I could rave about the sushi rice all day long. The sashimi pieces this time around were definitely more on the generous side. I’m also happy that I received more than just one packet of soy sauce (one is just never enough lol). Presentation for my takeout was good too. The only thing missing was the quality of the sashimi. You could tell that it wasn’t the freshest from the colour but at the same time it isn’t the worst quality sashimi I’ve ever tasted either. Overall I’d come back and try something else in the future and see how it goes.

Been there a few times and I'm honestly so disappointed with the sashimi. The pieces are so thin and for the amount you charge for it I'd get something better at a similar price going to Mikado. You don't really go into a fast food place looking to spend Mikado...

I have been ordering from Tokyo Express for many years and have always enjoyed the fresh and delicious food. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had... I received a Teriyaki Beef rice bowl, although I ordered Teriyaki chicken with extra beef. The bowl was drowning in sauce and the flavor was off...not at all appetizing. I found huge chunks of fat in the bowl...it was absolutely disgusting! There was also hardly any veggies... Absolutely horrible. I couldn't eat it... The Dragon Combo is also usually delicious, although the flavor of the rolls was completely off...not even close to what it usually tastes like. Again, not appetizing. Even the Dragon sauce was horrible... much thicker than normal and the flavor was again off... Just so odd and disappointing. I couldn't eat more. The Spring rolls were actually good, like they usually are. The free green onion cake was over-cooked and chewy... Not good. I can't stress how disappointed I am. The horrible flavor that overpowered the beef lingers in my mouth... I've been a customer for over 20 years and not sure I will ever order again.

Update: since writing this post I reached out to the company and no-one has bothered to even contact me... so...

I don't have huge expectations for customer service at fast food locations but I expect value and generally enjoy when the cashier smiles. Every single item we ordered felt like it was being made to save money. The Mexican roll was a giant cucumber with lots of tempura bits and very little tuna, the veggie roll maybe had a sliver of yam and filled with shredded carrots. Not sure when shredded carrot roll was last popular but it wasn't tonight. The yakisoba was driven past the sauce cart and the chicken looked like it was made from 2 random pieces left over from someone else's meal. I did not find what I ordered to be of value in fact I was very disappointed. I've eaten at Tokyo all over the city and this was by far the worst experience. But the topper was the scowl when I asked for water. Every other Tokyo in the city has a self serve water station . This one gives small Styrofoam cups that the inconvenienced employee had to fill for me. I'm pretty sure I won't be going back. Which is disappointing because it's close and the kids love sushi but if I don't feel like you want my business then I'm just not going to...
