I've been waiting excitedly for weeks for Captain Shawarma to open up and they didn't disappoint. It's only day 2 since they've opened and I was expecting chaos but was greeted with such friendly service and an exceptional meal. I was even gifted a complimentary bite of dessert while I waited for them to prepare my food. This is a family run business and everyone is contributing and working hard. Makes you want to really help them succeed. After researching some of their menu items online during their construction I knew that the Captain was offering more than your traditional Canadian style donairs and I had to go straight for the traditional Lebanese offerings. I'm pretty sure I've had the best Shish Taouk in recent memory today. Freshly grilled chicken skewer, coleslaw, garlic sauce and fries wrapped in a pita. This is comfort food to me and it's perfect on the go or at home. I'm already anxiously awaiting my next visit and find myself at a dilemma wether to order the Shish Taouk again or to try something different to which I'm confident will be equally delicious. I would fully recommend trying out Captain Shawarma.

Edit: I would give this a 3.75 if that was an option as it’s not my favourite donairs but I appreciate them existing over here, I haven’t tried all their dishes, and I want them to succeed. Went in and received very good service. They have an extensive and quite innovative menu. I found the portions are very generous. Tried the beef donair with the garlic sauce and it was good and the chicken shawarma with tzatziki. There are fries in the shawarma wrap which I didn’t love, but again I appreciate their creativity and I appear to be an outlier in this regard. They have several sauces available so be sure to customize. The chicken tenders and fries are good too! I had an absolutely delicious home made Lebanese almond cookie and that was my favourite! I will go back sometime to try some of their plates/falafel and am eager to try their home made baba ganoush! I feel their donairs are unique and diff than other places. Support local business and try this place out. 😊 Edit: thanks for the response! I received prompt communication via email with this business.

Wanted Donairs and we were near WEM. Looked up some reviews in the area and this place seemed like it had some recent visits with good reviews. Parking was easy as it's right on the corner. Nice windows out front and bright interior. Staff was busy making orders and they all seemed in a great mood. We ordered four meals; I had the large Shawarma Donair, my sister and BIL each got a large Donair while my niece picked the chicken fingers and fries. Server was amazing, she was quick and made sure she got everything right. Just my order had no tomatoes and they got it right. Was cool to watch them at work and I love the electric knife they used to trim the Donair meat. Big TV on the far wall played some great scenes from the Maldives and got us in a dreamy mood. Once the food was done, they brought it right to our table and with a smile. The food was hot and delicious! Serving sizes were generous. We four all loved our meals and I will happily return.

I’m not the type to leave nasty reviews, but I felt compelled to given the food I had and the service I received.

Went there recently and ordered the falafel platter. Which was $20, and like, fair, it was a lot of food. But not remotely GOOD food. Probably the most bland, dry and lifeless falafel platter I’ve ever had (a dish I’ve ordered from many places). The falafel was dry and flavourless. The hummus was legit the worst hummus I have ever had- it tasted like someone smashed a bunch of canned chickpeas, and that’s it. Clearly they forgot that hummus can have olive oil, garlic, salt added etc, because it was like a dry chickpea paste, at best. The Fatoush salad should just be called a green onion salad, because that’s what like 70% of it is. I don’t mind an accent but I pulled out a MOUNTAIN of giant chunks of green onion. Talk about overkill. The tahini sauce was again, dry and pasty. Not sure why their cooks are afraid of a little olive oil and flavour. Falafel is so easy to make so flavourful, it was honestly bizarre.

That, and it’s kind of annoying when there’s giant signs everywhere saying YOU MUST WEAR A MASK, and the dude behind the counter had his around his chin while he made my food, laughing it up. It was pretty gross and frankly had I not already ordered I would’ve just turned around and left.

Overall, not gonna be back...

Not really sure why or where the 5 star reviews are coming from, friends and family perhaps? My husband and I can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences we've had eating out recently. The main problem was the quality of food. My chicken shawarma had no flavour, bone fragments that I had to pick out, and the sauce was not tasty either. About an hour after eating I got food poisoning from the chicken shawarma and was throwing up! Not sure whether it was unsafe food handling or that the chicken wasn't cooked, but I was not having a good time. Second problem was the cashier royally messed up our order. She charged us for a platter instead of a wrap which was more expensive, we did not get the extra sauce we ordered, and when we called about the sauce her response was 'oh well it was only 50 cents'. Excuse me? It doesn't matter what the cost is, I paid for something that I didn't receive so 50 cents or 50 dollars, that's not how you should be responding to problem. I don't usually write negative reviews I just won't visit a business again, but the entire experience was awful and I don't want others to suffer the food poisoning and bad service that we got. We live a few houses down and it's not even worth it for us to ever go back which shows how poor of an...
