LOCAL Public Eatery - Kamloops — Restaurant in Kamloops

I am from out of town, but I have frequented this establishment a few times now and each time I go there the service is FANTASTIC! The servers are all so friendly, upbeat and great at reading the table. As a fellow industry worker, it takes a lot for me to be impressed, but this staff nails it, each time!

Each meal I have had has definitely not disappointed in the slightest. I have tried multiple dishes and each time they are hot, fresh and flavourful.

The atmosphere is perfect for when you want to just sit down and enjoy a meal either alone or with some friends, family, coworkers etc. It's a laid back establishment with an upscale vibe. Homey in a sense of everyone can feel like they belong there.

However, all this is great and all, but a great team is nothing without AMAZING leadership and I have just had to have my first encounter with their leadership team. Quick overview of why. I was, by compete accident, over charged for my meal and personally not paying attention. It wasn't until after tapping my card and walking out the door, did I realize the mistake. No big deal, asked my server to correct the error and she happily got a shift lead to refund my purchase and then I just paid again. I was told that in 3 to 4 business days I should see the money. Unfortunately a week later and I had not seen it. I stopped in the restaurant and spoke with a different shift lead who said that unfortunately they weren't able to help me, but gave me the AGM Stacy's info and told me that she will contact me to sort it out. At first it was slightly difficult to arrange mine and Stacy's stars to talk, however, after we finally connected, Stacy went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make things right for me. Not only did she figure out a way to quickly return my funds, being out of town and all, but made sure to provide me with an amazing gesture of good faith afterwards for the hassle of the situation.

Tried the restaurant for the second time this week. First visit was way too noisy and we could not have a normal conversation. Food was average but very expensive and tiny portions. But its been 6 months so….today we tried it again. I had the LPE greens salad…the world’s tiniest entree salad (??) for $17….which had no quinoa, no grapes and no smoked cheddar as described 😔. I searched hard for them! I had tofu added to it (an extra charge understandably) which were crispy, highly seasoned and yummy and the dressing was excellent. Parmesan cheese was all over it which I’m not a fan of and was not mentioned in the menu. 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half, a little lettuce, a few radish slices and cabbage. So small! 6 average sized mouthfuls and it was gone. No bread or anything served with it. I try to eat a light salad for lunch each day but this was just silly. Only a veggie burger or the above mentioned salad offered for vegetarians—not very creative. I hate having to ask for menu items to be altered to be vegetarian. Would be nice to have two or three other options on the menu even if they are just a really great vegetarian sandwich or wrap, maybe a roasted vegetable salad with some nuts and seeds and greens, maybe a vegetarian flatbread or? Lots of vegetarians here in town and coming through!

Staff both times very welcoming and friendly. Food came out of the kitchen quickly. Waitresses are fantastic :)

Portions are too small for the prices and we are not big eaters. Came home and had a sandwich. Restaurant is not conducive to conversation unless you are really speaking loudly. If you have any type of hearing issues or want some conversation privacy….good luck. Wont be back. Left both times hungry and...

I was a little disappointed, but it was still a semi-decent experience. I may try them again, undecided. Before I start with the negatives, I would like to say they did a fantastic job on the interior, and the staff we dealt with were absolutely great. If it was just one thing about my experience I'd have given them 4 stars but it was a few different things that reduced it to 3. I ordered the Steak and Fries, medium / rare. It actually showed up super rare and was barely warm. I don't mind rare, so ate it anyways because I didn't want to send it back or ask for another as everyone else at my table received orders at the same time. Next, the actual size of my meal was disappointing to say the least... 7oz steak with a very small handful of fries with nothing else for $28 isn't worth it. However, the shrimp dumplings were fantastic, good portion for the $, I quite enjoyed them. I ordered one specialty drink, before quickly switching to beer... a Sangria. Sadly, the glass was 90% full of crushed ice, the Sangria only came up 60% of the way in my glass ... Visually it looked really good, but 2 sips in it was apparent you can't use crushed ice with small paper straws because the straws plug up. Roughly 4 - 5 sips in my drink was done. It was literally almost all ice, very little Sangria so definitely not worth the price they're asking. This wasn't a one off situation either, others at my table ordered specialty drinks as well, they requested less ice after seeing mine... and there (small) glasses only showed up 1/2 full. Few sips, drink was literally gone.

Sadly that appetizer was probably the best...
