Worst restaurant ever! 3 different visits, 3 horrible experiences. First experience: Went in casual clothing, for dinner. The server looked up head to toe multiple times, before even turning to seat us. She treated us horribly for the entire meal. Second experience: Went in for an early dinner with a family member. The restaurant was basically empty. It still took 5 minutes before a server took our order. Right after she put it in, someone she recognized came in, and she chatted with them while taking their order. They happened to order the same thing we did. When our food was ready, it was served to their table, despite them arriving well after us. If it had been a different meal, with a shorter cook time, I could understand, but it was the exact same meal! The final straw: I decided to try breakfast, because clearly dinner service was a failure. I asked to substitute cheesy home fries for regular home fries on one of the menu items. All that was required was to add cheese. I said that I understood if it cost extra, and was more than happy to pay. I was told that that was in no way possible. If I wanted the cheesy home fries, I would need to order the breakfast that included them. The problem was that one of the items in that breakfast was baked beans, something I am allergic to. I agreed to the listed breakfast, but said it was imperative that the baked beans not be added, due to an allergy. She said that would be no problem. When I got my breakfast, baked beans were poured over EVERYTHING! My toast, my homefries, my eggs. When I mentioned it to the server, she rolled her eyes, and got a side plate, slammed it down next to me, and told me to scrape it off.
One bad experience could be someone having a bad day. The second could be someone pandering to a friend. The third one had no excuse. I will never go to this restaurant again, and I will proactively tell EVERYONE I know how horrible it is. The day it closes will be the best...
Read moreStarting off, we tried to go to the restaurant through the mall entrance but were locked out with a plant in the doorway. We had to knock on the door and the waitress let us know yes, they were open, she just didn't open that door. Ok. Our waitress was very friendly, not very attentive (and we don't mind that. We don't want to be bothered every second of our visit. However we understand some people would want a little more attention) we came in for breakfast. My husband ordered the western omelet, I ordered the breakfast platter. After a very long wait, our food arrived. Well, mine did. They gave my husband a western sandwich. He didn't get any home fries and obviously didn't order it as a sandwich. We didn't say anything because unfortunately the waitress just never came back. So he just ate it. My scramble eggs were soaking wet. They were almost like egg soup and the rye toast (they charged us .20 cents extra) were so drenched in butter that we had to squeeze them out. I had to salt my eggs because they were very bland and I never salt my food. The entire place is trapped in the 80s. The wallpaper is...wow. but as someone that has trouble seeing in low light, I was eating in the dark on this one, litterally. It was so dark in this place. It's cheap enough, but even for the price we paid ($35 +tip) it still wasn't worth that price. I would rather spend another $10 and go somewhere else. Overall it just wasn't worth it.
Also, to add. I saw a person review just before me about coming after I had been there. I was that for 9am and they claim to come around 10:45am. They note that the place didn't have change. I paid in cash! So I don't understand how all of a sudden they didn't have enough to give another customer change. Very very...
Read moreThis used to be a regular spot for my grandparents, my mum, and I when I was a small fry about 25 years ago. High quality food, made with love, for rock bottom prices. Stopped by for the first time since around 2000 in 2016, and everything was just the same, a refreshing delight in a world where things are always getting worse. Stopped by again a few weeks ago with my other half, and talk about a tale of two cities!
New owner have taken over as of about a year ago, and although they made no changes to the decor, which most people would probably say they should, but I hope they don't as it's like walking into 1985 in the best way possible. Unfortunately, it does appear that they've made changes to their food. Now, I thought that my turkey club sandwich with fries and onion rings on the side was actually quite good. However, my other half who had the fish and chips was very disappointed. The fish appeared to be frozen box fish from a grocery store, was very flat, and had more breading than fish. Furthermore, the vinegar they gave her to put on her french fries appeared to be sour, and made the meal, on the whole, taste rather unpleasant. Based solely on my dining experience I would recommend them, but I would be cautious. Based on her experience, she wouldn't recommend them at all. So if you're in the area and you're looking for a real blast from the past, I suggest you give this place a chance, but you temper your expectations.
Also, a soft drink is $5. I know that that's supposed to be a money maker for most places, but that price is...
