Disappointing Experience at Oh Bombay, Kitchener

I recently visited the Oh Bombay location in Kitchener, hoping it would match the excellent food and service I've enjoyed at their Burlington store. Unfortunately, this visit was a letdown.

Starting with the drinks, the experience was off from the beginning. I ordered a Whiskey Sour, which came out looking and tasting nothing like it should. It had an odd lime or green apple syrup added, making the drink literally green, and not in a good way. Additionally, when we asked the server for a non-sweet cocktail recommendation, she suggested the "Cactus," which turned out to be a big miss—more like juice with no discernible alcohol, and to top it off, it was served at room temperature.

The food, which I was hoping would salvage the evening, also fell short. We ordered a variety of dishes: the sizzling vegetarian platter, crispy cauliflower, corn, and for the main course, paneer with roomali roti. Unfortunately, the roomali roti was a huge disappointment—extremely oily and nothing like the authentic version. The rest of the dishes lacked the flavor and quality I’ve come to expect from Oh Bombay.

Additionally, i dont know why but the server asked us “ Are you guys students or on work permit?” Having dined at several Oh Bombay locations, this was by far my worst experience. I would recommend sticking to their Burlington location if you're looking for a quality meal and proper service. The Kitchener store, sadly, did not live up to the brand's reputation.

This review captures the key points of my experience and should be helpful for others considering visiting the Kitchener location of Oh...

I will never recommend this place to anyone to have food here. Today, went to have dinner at this place. We ordered vegetarian food, a curry and naans and roti. They gave Kadhai Paneer, completely water in name of gravy with no salt in it. When we put this curry in our plates, water completely spread throughout the plate. When I asked my server for a salt, also showed her this water running out in my plate, She went to the kitchen, and came back saying we will replace it for you. I know chefs inside are not gonna give newly prepared, they will just boil that more and evaporate water and that's what they did. No gravy, only vegetables were coming and completely tasteless. Already vegetables and paneer were too soft and soggy, and later when they gave us replaced Kadhai Paneer curry, vegetables were more soft. Usually Kadhai paneer has a crunch of peppers but instead it was too soft and a bit bitter taste of it. All naans and roti became so cold and hard like papad that we can't even make pieces of it. Ranjana was my server and she was really nice at her work, but what one can do if chefs inside doesn't know how to cook. One person came to us later , might be the main chef , apologized us and told us that chef is on training and don't know stuff, hence this thing happened. But I would say from my experience that person who prepared this have no experience of cooking and completely new for kitchen to enter. He gave us discount but this is not enough, person's mood and this bad experience is not...

I am writing to bring to your attention an unfortunate experience with my friends on August 14th around 4:30 PM.

From the moment we arrived, we encountered several issues with the service provided by your server, Deepti. Despite the restaurant being empty, she rudely denied our request to sit at the front. Throughout our meal, she showed little interest in our dining experience. When we asked for the bill and requested to split it among four people, she refused to provide a receipt, handed the payment terminal to one of us, and then left abruptly. This process repeated, and when she finally returned, she questioned us aggressively about the receipts, suggesting that our payments had not gone through, even though they had from our end.

After all this, Deepti took an additional 10 minutes at the counter without communicating with us, and when we expressed that we were in a hurry, she responded rudely, stating she need to figure out what had happened.

I appreciate the efforts your restaurant making to grow a business, but this incident left us very disappointed. I urge you to address this matter with Ms. Deepti to ensure future guests do not have a...

The atmosphere was really nice. Good lighting, beautiful decor. The music was really loud - it was music to match the food when we came in but was changed to hip hop and pop shortly after. The restaurant was clean but the bathrooms could have used a once over. The person working in the front was really warm and friendly. She happily served us each time we had a request and made us feel like appreciated guests. The menu gave us a chuckle because of the wording and spelling mistakes. The food came quickly. The Momo's were full of flavour but were hard. I was surprised to see them shaped like pot stickers, but the flavour was great (albeit a bit spicy). The Biryani lacked flavour, but the chicken in it was tender. The Palak paneer tasted like paneer tossed with boiled spinach - where were the spices? Very basic. This was disappointing for me. I ordered garlic naan for the Palak paneer and was surprised at how crispy it was. In my experience naan should be soft, but this was more like a crusty garlicky naan. Delicious but texturally surprising. Overall I believe this restaurant has great potential. I think the great service is it's winning attribute.

I had a terrible experience at Oh Bombay. To start, the food was awful. The cocktail, Cool Blue, wasn’t good at all, and to top it off, there was no salt rim on the glass like it should have had. The Manchuria was extremely bland and tasted like plain flour. The Sheekh kebab tasted like it had been frozen and reheated. The crispy corn was overloaded with masala, and there was no difference between the sauce on the Manchuria and the sauce on the crispy corn- both were equally unimpressive. The jeera rice was completely off, loaded with peppercorns, cardamom, and cinnamon, which ruined such a simple dish. The biryani was the worst I’ve ever tasted. If there was one dish I’d recommend from this place , it would be the BEER. To make matters worse, the Paneer Butter Masala was so sweet it felt like we were eating dessert. Safe to say, this was a one-time visit, and I’ll never be coming back.
