Darlise Cafe — Restaurant in Kitchener

I’ve heard such great things about this place so we wanted to give it a try. I was so disappointed.

Pro’s

Clean, nice decor, menu has great selection for anyone to choose from, and the food is actually really good!

Con’s

We had terrible service. The restaurant was busy and it appeared that they have too many tables than what the kitchen can accommodate.

After we ordered, we ended up waiting 45-minutes before I flagged down our server (we will call her “J”) to ask about the status of our food. Up until this point she walked past us a dozen times without making eye contact. She said that they are “busy and are working on it.” She didn’t acknowledge that we have been waiting a long time for bacon and eggs, nor apologize.

Our food arrived an hour after we ordered it. J the server proudly presented our meals and then asked if we wanted our drinks refilled (an hour later!) We each ordered bacon, eggs and toast. It came with a potato pancake which was very dry and we couldn’t eat it.

After expressing my disappointment to the server, she didn’t once apologize for not checking with us or the kitchen. I could see the kitchen was working their butts off so I have to assume they can’t accommodate a full restaurant. This was bacon and eggs 🤦‍♀️

Darlise Cafe is the only place we will go for eggs benedict because the quality here exceeds everywhere else! If you want to get seated without a wait, be sure to arrive early (I find before 9-9:30am it's not usually too busy). But really, if you have the time it's worth the wait! Service is amazing! The owners clearly care about their customers and strive for quality in everything they do. The chef has some incredible dishes on the menu, but honestly I can't bring myself to order anything other than the eggs benny's because they're just so good. My fiance and I usually split the traditional eggs benny and the chicken and waffles eggs benny, both are incredible. Anyone looking for a cozy cafe with impeccable food must try Darlise Cafe!

Update: we have since gotten some of their lunch food for takeaway and it is also fantastic! The fried chicken sandwich surprised me with the mango chutney, I've never been a big fan of mango but chef Darryl really knows what he's doing with flavours. The Mac and Cheese was probably the best I've ever had.

I picked this restaurant for my family and i for breakfast because they meintioned they have gluten free options. When we 3ntered the restaurant i asked the lady if they had gf options just to confir and she confirmed. I ordered benedict eggs with toast, when it was served we asked if it was GF and the waiteress said it was not gf hence she brought me gf bread with eggs. I called her yesterday to confirm again if the sweet potatoes fries were gf and she confirmed it was gf because they use fresh sweet potatoes and they coat with chickpea flour. I now doubting about the bread if they really exchanged for gf. I have celiac disease, I haven't slept for two nights since Wednesday night because of excruciating pain all over my body. I usually feel pain during the day but if it gets worse at night. I have never experienced this much pain before. I will never go to this Cafe again and if you have celiac disease or any food sensitivity stay away...
