Update: I recently went back to this place and I have to admit some off their food is still good. I don't see any real change from the last time I reviewed this place, but my food was tasty and I wanted to leave this here.
TL;DR: I had very high hopes for home taste. I've been ordering from here for about a year now. It gives me no pleasure in saying this, but this restaurant has gotten worse over time. The quality and taste of the food have fallen steeply in the last couple of months, but somehow the prices have gone up.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ANYMORE. Avoid at all costs - the quality to price ratio is horrible here.
I used to be a regular at this place. I have ordered pretty much everything on their menu including the sweets.
I used to love the Amritsari Chole Kulcha, Aloo Parantha, Bread Pakoda, Shaahi Paneer, Achaari Soya Chaap, and Momos. I loved these dishes so much, I had at least one every week.
About three months ago they ruined bread Pakoda. They started making it too oily and salty. This was my go to order from here, so I chalked it up to a one time error at the time. However, this is how they make it now.
Next the Momos. I loved both the filling and the shell. Now the sauces are all too pungent and the filling is almost non existent. The shell is the worst part - chewy and over cooked, like it was made a while back and refried upon order.
The Amritsari Chole Kulcha - what can I say. They reduced the amount of chole they give, and replaced it with yogurt and pickle. Not to mention that the taste of the chole has changed so much. Now it's too spicy and bitter. It also seems like all their Paranthas have been ruined completely. I used to love the Aloo Paranthas, but these days they're soggy and barely have any filling.
The Shaahi paneer is the worst of all. This used to be my absolute favorite comfort food. It was full of flavour, rich, decadent and satisfying. It was perfect. Which is why, I was happy to pay more when they increased the prices from $12 to an exorbitant $18. But even the restaurant owner can't explain why the richness disappeared to be replaced with a thin, tasteless curry that is not "Shahi" in any way.
I called them multiple times, pleading them not to change anything about the way they made their food. I specifically explained what changed about the Shahi Paneer and begged them to revet to the old recipe. I just got a canned response - "I'll bring this to the chef's attention." Chef? What chef? Have you seen this place? It's a hole in the wall.
Anyway, I am not going back here. I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. There are far better places that serve great vegetarian food and are priced much better. Del's restaurant is just up the road from this place. For the same price as you'd spend at home taste, you can dine-in, be served by courteous waiters AND eat consistently great food - that's prepared by an...
Read moreDear Home Taste,
Thank you for your response.
I understand that you’ve always sold the burger as a combo — but as a first-time customer placing a phone order, that wasn’t communicated to me at all. There was no mention of a combo, fries, or pop. Clear communication is important, especially when someone is ordering for the first time.
Yes, I agreed to pay at the counter — but that was only after being told after the fact that you don’t sell the burger on its own. By then, I had already made the trip and didn’t want to argue further. That doesn’t mean the experience was fair or customer-friendly.
I’m not blaming anyone personally, but simply sharing honest feedback so that future customers don’t face the same confusion. A quick heads-up on the phone would’ve avoided this entirely.
Thanks again.
⭐ 1 Star - Very Disappointed with Service
Recently placed a phone order with Home Taste for 2 Aloo Tikki Burgers. I clearly told them this was my first time ordering and requested, “Please make it good.” They said, “Sure, ready in 15 minutes.”
When I went to pick it up, they gave me 2 full combos (with fries and drink), which I never asked for. I only wanted the burgers. When I questioned them, they told me, “It always comes as a combo” — but no one informed me about that on the phone. As a customer, how would I know? If they had mentioned it, I wouldn’t have ordered — I already had other food at home.
Worst part? They just said “can’t help” and charged me around $30 for something I didn’t want in the first place. No flexibility, no courtesy, just poor communication and service.
I can’t say much about the food yet, but based on this experience, definitely not a customer-friendly place. Won’t...
Read moreThey certainly dont respect their customer times, lights flashing saying open until 12, also with notice on front door saying we are open until 12
But fun part is they will refuse food at 11:43, no reason other than being lazy in doing business.
Lots of better places to choose from
Thank you for reaching back and your feedback and the deflection seems like you needed more clarity.
As far as the question of items being ready at that time is concerned, all the curry options were sitting in front of me READY.
Also you use the word long time customer, i don’t think being a long time customer has served me anything at your facility, i will write one incident of many to put things in perspective
After being a customer for nearly 2 years i came, got my food, paid, showed phone confirmation in my banking app that the money has been deducted, guess what i have to pay twice on your faulty machine because YOU didnt see the money on your end and i waited 10 days to find the same server to get my money back.
I don’t know what is expected of me to know the last bus timings
Am i supposed to leave your staff at home?
You failed in planning, clearly don’t reimburse staff for uber.
And to write i am pulling you down and it wont help anyone
Trust me it will help people who have a planned life and go for take out option to save cooking time as you made me wait for 30 min for 10 roti in afternoon times.
You are the sole reason for pulling yourself down and this is certainly not the same place where i started doing business.
And good try to put it on me and guilt shaming me but i have been done dirty enough and disrespected enough to take...
