If you're seeking a taste of the tropics without leaving Kitchener, look no further than the Grand Surf. From the moment you step inside, you're transported to a beachside paradise. This tiki-inspired eatery is a unique gem in the heart of the city, offering a delightful blend of surf vibes, island flavors, and a laid-back atmosphere.
The decor inside Grand Surf is an instant conversation starter. The tiki bar theme is executed with flair and creativity, with surfboard tables, hula girl sculpture, and tiki glasses adding a playful touch to the overall ambiance. The attention to detail in the design is commendable; it feels like you've stumbled upon a hidden oasis in the midst of Kitchener.
The cocktail I started with was expertly balanced, not overly sweet, and packed a tropical punch that made me feel like I was sipping it on a beach, and it was hard to sip considering how tasty it was. Luckily they offer non-alcoholic beverages that are equally as crafted and delicious.
The food was incredible and they have vegan options! We shared a few different appetizers (edamame in chili, guacamole, and mushroom dumplings) and the combination of flavours was perfection. Grand Surf takes its commitment to fresh ingredients and presentation seriously which adds an extra layer of authenticity to the dining experience.
The service at Grand Surf was friendly, attentive, and inviting. The staff seemed genuinely passionate about the concept and eager to ensure that guests had a memorable visit.
While it may not be an actual beachfront getaway, The Grand Surf certainly provides a little slice of paradise right here in Kitchener. So, if you're in the mood for a tropical escape, make your way to Grand Surf and let the island vibes sweep you away. Will...
Read moreI liked it alot was fun the food was flavorful and delish its somthing you dont see alot of around here and thats nice ! The atmosphere is cute, small, fun it has this hole in the wall hidden hide out feel , the bar tender/ waiter was really nice offerd to make us some delicious drinks instead of having somthing we always have so it was exciting just to let him experiment and be surprised. I ordered the spam sliders witch were 10/10 highly recommend! Deffinatly a cool place ! Would go again forsure ! The only advice I would give the restaraunt is pricing and portion sizes we spend $78 and left still hungry the portions are small $16 for 2 super tiny sliders thats $8 a slider ( they are delicious) but if you think of all the other things you can order to fill you up for that at restaurants doesnt feel worth it i would add some fries or salad some kinda filler that would help fill ppl up but not break the bank same with the ribs for $18 its 4 ribs no real sides besides a skewer with 2 things of bokchoy cut up and 1 with 2 pieces of pineapple and 2 lychee when you could go to other steakhouses and get a full rack and 2 huge sides ! I adored the space its super chill i loved the flavors and unique menu but the price or portions...
Read moreThis place, a new location spun off from the Grand Trunk Saloon just nearby, is a cosy Tiki bar concept that is different enough from the Southern-inspired menu of Grand Trunk.
Grand Surf also boasts a staff of mixologists and a varied menu (with seasonal updates, I'm told by the staff!) with more seafood options. There are other items you don't always see in the area such as beef tartare, which while I don't personally eat myself, but know several people and subsequently I've already got others interested in coming!
The food itself was in my opinion the better part of my experience, having shared a nice dish of mussels but there was an undeniable element of showmanship to the cocktails brought to us, such as my friend's "Colonist Pig" which is the pictured cocktail that is on fire.
Overall this place has me excited for its potential with the seasonal menu changes, but it hasn't become a mainstay yet. Come in though, especially if you like a more intimate, calmly lit bar experience with knowledgeable staff and highly...
