Bistro Local 245 — Restaurant in La Malbaie

Walked in as a solo diner with no reservations, and they were happy to seat me on the patio.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. French is my second language, and after struggling they happily spoke to me in English.

Started with the salmon tartar, and followed with the Tagliatelle pan-fried scallops and shrimps with citrus cream sauce, with cream brulee for dessert. All wonderful, freshly prepared, and cooked to perfection.

My only criticism would be the service was a little slow, and it felt like my server forgot about me. He was very polite and professional, but he didn't come around often. It was particularly noticeable when the couple next to me had to go into the dining room to get his attention.

Really a 3.5 overall for me. French onion soup was good, although too salty. Mussels were fresh tasting with decent flavour. Salad mediocre. Spring mix with 2 cherry tomatoes. My partner said that his burger was decent and his fries were OK. On the salty side again and processed versus fresh cut fries. The place was busy and the service was inconsistent. So many of the wrong plates were brought to our table. Eventually we got ours. Attempted to make an online booking and I got no response. Even though we did this very early, no response. Three of us vacationing in Quebec from Ontario. Decided to have dinner here without a reservation. We arrived and were seated right away. We speak very, very basic conversational French, but we make an effort. Our server was pleasant enough, however did not come back to the table to offer additional wine, or ask how our meal was. We waited at least an hour for our meals to arrive. The table beside us came in after us and were served well before us. Our overall experience was very poor.
