Chez Truchon - Auberge & Bistro — Restaurant in La Malbaie

We really enjoyed our petite table d'hote dinner. I had the Beef Wellington that was tender, cooked to perfection and accompanied by crispy fries and delicious vegetables. The carrot, green beans and beets tasted like freshly harvested vegetables from my organic garden in the Eastern Townships! In the middle of the winter we enjoyed the full flavour of top quality vegetables. The green salad was dressed with a dressing that tasted like roasted vegetables. It was simple, unusual and delicious. My partner had the maple flavoured mignon de porc that he found tender and very tasty. He also especially appreciated the vegetables that accompanied his dish. We liked our dessert the least, only because we were very full from the generous portions of our meals and were not quite ready to savour a very sweet chocolate brownie studded with slabs of white chocolate and garnished with whipped cream and fruit. This restaurant, beautifully nestled into a large house converted to an auberge, has everything going for it. The food is excellent; no gourmand could complain. I had the sea scallops which were done without some of the flavour enhancing that usually occurs. Served with a complement of root vegetables which I adore, it was wonderfully plain, yet tasty and as fresh as you could get. My partner had roast lamb with a gravy that was so delicate and flavourful she almost cried. The service was exemplary and quite entertaining. We loved it. The outdoor ambience of being served on the verandah is wonderfully appealing. When we learned they served breakfast, we came back for it the next day. We were not disappointed. Portobello mushrooms stuffed with minced sausage and covered with a soft poached egg set everything off perfectly.

Truchon also has a very good wine list and half bottles which I think makes so much sense.

We visited La malbaie for a weekend, and wanted to eat out for a night as I was bored of the BBQ and salads, we found this place online which had one of the best ratings. It's very beautiful to dine in and the service is really good. The staff is fluent in English and French which is really something I am comfortable with as my French is very beginner level. The food is very good taste wise. We took the "table d'hôte" which is a 5 course meal involving a starter (cold or hot), soup or a salad, main dish, dessert and coffee or tea. It was really good to have different varieties in just one meal. Apart from this you have a tiny appetizer and a palate refresher before the appetizer and main dish respectively which was something fancy I believe 😋.
