I recently visited The Fox and Hounds, and I can honestly say it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment I walked in, the staff seemed uninterested and inattentive. It took a long time just to get seated, even though the place wasn’t particularly busy, and once we were at our table, it felt like we were being ignored. Basic things like menus, water, and someone checking in on us seemed like too much effort for the servers.
When our food finally arrived, the disappointment only continued. The dishes looked sloppy and unappetizing, as if they had been thrown together without care. My meal was barely warm, and what should have been flavorful tasted bland and greasy. Others at my table had similar complaints—overcooked meat, soggy fries, and vegetables that tasted like they came straight from a freezer. For the prices they charge, the quality was far below what anyone should expect.
The service throughout the meal made the experience even worse. We struggled to get the attention of our server for refills or to ask for simple condiments, and when we did, they seemed annoyed rather than helpful. It felt like the staff just didn’t care about providing good service. To top it off, our plates sat on the table long after we had finished eating, which made it clear that attentiveness was not a priority here.
Overall, The Fox and Hounds was a huge letdown. Between the poor service and the subpar food, I left frustrated and unsatisfied. With so many better dining options available, I would strongly recommend avoiding this place altogether. Unless there are major improvements in both the kitchen and the staff’s attitude, I don’t see myself...
Read moreCan not say enough good things about Fox and Hounds. Normally on vacation my wife and I make a point of never eating at the same restaurant more than once, we went back two times for dinner.
Service was absolutely fantastic! we had the same server both nights we were there, I feel bad I forget her name but she was fantastic. Asked our server for dinner recommendation and she recommended the beef dip and the fish and chips. The beef dip has so much flavour and they use their house made gravy instead of au jus and its so tasty, even without the gravy the sandwich on its own is so good and if you like horseradish their in house made horseradish will ruin other places for you, best I have ever had! Great flavour and just the right amount of sinus clearing goodness! The fish and chips... Light, crispy and the made in house tarter sauce, are you kidding me? So good!
Next meal we had was the bangers and mash, chicken pot pie. Again on our servers recommendation. She was spot on, the flavours for both were just perfect. I find with bangers they are too salty, Fox and Hound bangers were perfectly seasoned.
Fox and Hounds is a bit pricey however you get a lot of food on your plate and makes it worthwhile. When we come back to Island will 100% be coming back for dinner and a pint. Cant recommend this...
Read moreWent to the Fox and Hounds for the first time and I have to say I was absolutely impressed! Let's start at the beginning. Walked in the door and loved the atmosphere and inviting warmth. Grabbed a menu and sat down. Very British in that you grab a menu and then take it up to the bar to order. The young guy(his family owns the pub) was brilliant. Professional, courteous and super friendly. Ordered food and sat back down. That's when I had a real chance to look around.
No TV's!!!!! Only a TV in the separate room at the back. Patrons were actually talking to each other! Without TV's people weren't staring off into the distance watching some sporting event. This was fantastic! The server came by a few times to chat and keep me informed that the food was a little delayed and answer any questions I had.
I ordered he Prime Rib Burger with Chips. The burger was perfect. It didn't drip in my lap or create sloppy mess on my plate and the bun wasn't soggy. I'll definitely be back for another!
The price is a little more than your average pub but the quality was definitely worth it. If you've never been you really need to go.
For those who complain that you have to walk up to the bar to order? This is common in Britain and stays in theme that this IS a British Style...
