Absolutely a local gem. Each tapa dish came packed with so much flavor. The ribs were phenomenal. Bay scallops and ajillo prawns were cooked to perfection. Prawns and clams paella were flavorful. For a party of two, four tapas were plentiful in addition to two house breads. Cozy seating inside with a vibrant backyard patio seatings. Staff is wonderful and warm but lacked prompt service. A bit chaotic with multiple servers serving us. The first round of tapas and cocktails came in at a moderate pace then our second round of cocktails were lost in the order until we had to remind two different servers. We were waiting for another round of dipping bread and that too was lost in the order for some time. Again, everyone who came by to check on us was super nice but would've been more efficient with one assigned server. It was a busy Friday night out on the patio and we were the only party sitting inside so perhaps we got lost in the shuffle. After all, we decided to have a nightcap in their patio lounge.

First, great atmosphere. They have a backyard patio that is mostly insulated from the road noise, inside dining is simple and well put together. Staff was friendly if green. Granted I only had Bravas, but that is my go-to when trying out a tapas place. It is ubiquitous in Spain and comes in a million varieties from fries to fingerling Hasselback potatoes. Maya Norte's are the standard home fry cut, seasoned, fried, then seasoned again served with a bravas sauce in a bowl and a garlic aioli which is perfectly fine. However, like any just about every tapas place outside of Spain, the point of tapas is missed here: unless the tapas are quite high end, they are just snacks to enjoy while drinking. At $12 for homefries and $8 for beer, enjoying tapas in Canada feels more like dining that hanging out. With tax and tip, this combo comes to $25. In much of Spain, simple tapas like warmed olives are free with a drink. A bravas tapa would be $4, as would the beer. They don't tip in Spain. So, in short, this is a perfectly fine place, and certainly nicer than many restaurants that I have experienced in my short time on the island, but ultimately I don't think it is possible to have a tapas experience in Canada given the food and operating costs, and outrageous tax on alcohol.

I can’t believe it has taken us this long to discover this gem. We sat on the back patio and it was absolutely gorgeous. Loved the ambience. Very hip yet quaint. The food … OMG. Absolutely delicious. We have the bread with olive oil and tomato which was out of this word! Also loved the ajillo mushrooms, quesadilla frita(from fresh board), Mexican corn … we wish we weren’t so full because there was so much more we wanted to try. Every single dish was absolutely delicious and freshly made. I am lucky because I get to frequent the island with my job and I will definitely be back here. In fact, I look forward to it! Oh… And the margaritas were delicious as well! And last, but definitely not least… The servers and staff. They were friendly, knowledgeable, attentive. Lovely experience all around. Exceeded expectations. 10 out of 10!

Great ambience. Lovely folks. So appreciate the chef/owner coming out and chatting with us. That sort of connection keeps us coming back. We enjoyed a couple of virgin margaritas that are made with their in-house mix. A perfect balance of sweet and sour! We started off with the so, so FRESH guacamole, salsa and homemade chips. Fantastic. The calamari was STUNNING. So fresh. Accompanied by lemon aioli. YUM. Next came the wings...we opted for the habanero glaze. 🔥 SUPER HOT but impossible to stop eating! A slight, controlled sweetness. Finally we cooled off our mouths with a couple of snapper tacos. One each was the perfect amount for us. We left dessert on the menu though there was plenty to tempt!! Highly recommend!

A unique change from the local offerings that is hip and fun with a trendy and energetic atmosphere. We had seen some recent discussion on Maya Norte and decided this past Friday we would finally check it out. I loved the decor, the openness, the upbeat music and of course great food and great service. We tried the tomato toast, lime tequila prawns and corn chorizo cheese fritters . Make sure to get the baguette side to soak up all the sauces from your meal too ! Our service was polite and friendly as well helped with our decisions. This was our first visit and not our last as I guess they have live music every Thursday. A perfect reason to come back.

This was well worth the drive from our campground south of Chemainus! The owners are super friendly and take the time to chat with you if you would like. We came here with friends and we were so glad we did! The staff was all super friendly, the food was very flavourful and we like the Tapas style so that you could try a whole bunch of different items. The meatballs, mushrooms, shrimp plus so much more are all worth trying! It is not a very large place so make sure you reserve or plan to potentially wait for a table. They have a wonderful large patio deck outback for those warm summer months!
