Zack's Lounge — Restaurant in Ladysmith

My wife and I dropped in here during our first visit to Ladysmith. The town overall was pretty quiet and we were just looking for a place to grab some food and a drink or two. We walked by Zack's originally since it didn't look like much but eventually decided it was "the" place to go that night since everything else was closed or... less appealing.

Prepare yourself: When we walked in my heart sank... and you'll know EXACTLY what I mean when you go in. It looks a little "hole in the wall-y" when you take your first few steps in... And you know immediately (unless you've been there before) that you have a 50/50 chance they actually know what they're doing.

Obviously they had some surprises up their sleeve because I've given them 4-5 stars across the board. This is one of those little gems that is hidden in Ladysmith.

Service was excellent. Our waitress was on point with her recommendations, service was very quick and polite. She was familiar with the menu and really easy to talk to. Checks in every box as far as I'm concerned.

But where Zack's absolutely nails it was the food. Neither of us could believe how good it was. We had a few different items but judging by the comments we heard from other nearby tables whatever you order is going to be great. We just kept ordering more things. Specifically the special which was the tostadas.

Just... wow.

Anyway! If you're looking for a place to grab a quick bite- leans towards Mexican maybe some fusion- whatever that means. I don't know any of the terminology... But they had a nice variety on the menu and I wouldn't hesitate to try things I've never heard of when we return.

We have come to Zack’s a number of times. After giving up our local haunt as it changed hands and was never the same, we started looking for a new one. We have been to Zack’s many times and now feel we have finally found our new local favorite. Cole is awesome and wonderfully personal yet not intrusive. The food is consistently great, the service exemplary and the prices are not outlandish.

My partner often defers to the homemade burger and says it is the best he’s ever had. AND the fries are not just your normal salted potato out of the deep fryer. These are specially and uniquely seasoned to make them stand out among the usual fare.

We have now sampled many items on the menu and have found them all to be top notch. For me, food must be wholesome, not laden with the most convenient chemical laden stuff. The service needs to be consistent, friendly but not intrusive and on point. Please don’t come to my table and ask me how my meal is when I have just taken a bite. You won’t find this at Zack’s.

As we have now eaten there more than 1/2 dozen times, I can honestly say they care about their food, how it is prepared and how it is presented as well as their customers. It is a hard place to reach especially now during Covid and so much additional expense being placed on our local restaurants to keep everyone safe.

Second time we've been to Zach's Lounge, first time we shared a chicken club and it was fantastic! During said visit, we saw the table next to us receiving a beef dip dish and thought, wow that looks really good, we should try it next time. So we did just that the other day and O M freaking G was it ever so good and tasty, best beef dip we have ever had, bar none! My mother would always preach that the best tasting food is one made with the ingredients of LOVE, and despite only seeing/knowing the chef from a short distance afar, in his kitchen, I can attest that he must "love" what he does! The co-owner we spoke to was super kind and friendly and appears to care deeply about their business... and it shows, even within all the finite contents of our dish, awesome onion rings, fantastic caesar salad and even the horseradish. All high end quality cuisine within a quaint atmosphere!!! We definitely highly recommend, and also very importantly, remember we must all try our best to support our local businesses and restaurants, especially in this new climate we now find ourselves in, keep it in all in Canada eh, ya...
