Update January 2024... (stars updated accordingly) So we did come back. And can happily consider this place one of the locals that we will return to.... counter service was friendly and helpful. Staff at the grill had their shiznit together and were not yelling... The feature pickle burger was good. The yam and bean burger was good . Props given for what appears to be a strong, positive local fundraising effort by Big Wheel Burger.
We might (big might) give this place a second chance. However.... Nearly 100$ for 3 people to eat! 2 burgers, two fries, one poutine (but anyone from Quebec would die laughing at that suggestion), two shakes and a can of pop. Burgers might have been decent "messy burgers"... if they were warm. Fries might have been pretty good crispy fries... if they were warm. The poutine was pathetic - cold curds and about a spoon full of something suggestive of gravy. And luke warm at best. The shakes were the best part. Unfortunately the cook staff have their process so bass ackwards that we waited (note the luke warm food comments) while someone back there shouted, "don't rush me or I'll work slower!". IF IT WERE ANY SLOWER I COULD HAVE MADE IT ALL MYSELF. The nice but inexperienced hostess on the cash should have informed us, at 15 min to closing, that we would have to take out. Instead she had to, at 3 min to closing, try and nicely tell us that we were welcome to eat in until 10 min after closing or switch to take out. It was at 15 min AFTER closing that we finally got our shakes. So the food had at least 7 min, sitting on the counter - in the freezing AC- to "firm up". The problem here is the lame management of the site. Find a new manager. I wonder what shop will be in this building next.... PS- big wheel burger sauce.... I think most of it dribbled out the crack of...
Read moreAttention management: I've been several times to various locations including this one however I was BLOWN AWAY on my visit today at 4pm on Jan 16 2024. Currently expecting a baby and this was my third visit over the last week or so because I've just been craving cheeseburgers and the cooking technique on the burger on this visit was phenomenal. I checked with my partner to see if I was biased because of my cravings and he confirmed it was an exquisitely cooked burger - he wanted to go back for another!
PLEASE have the cook that was working that shift train the rest of the staff. The caramelization on the patty was beautiful, I enjoyed every bite and this burger has only made my burger cravings stronger. In the past, I've always needed to open the burger and season it with salt myself because I do tend to find the patties under seasoned, but not the case this time. I hope that cook gives a seminar on burger making so that the rest of Victoria's burger joints can skill up. Very impressed. Please let me know roughly what days I can come back to have a burger made by the Tuesday afternoon...
Read moreI've been to the other Big Wheel locations many times and everything was usually fine but I tried this location the 3rd day after opening and was a bit disappointed. I'm celiac and made sure to let them know on my online order but when I wanted to confirm with the front staff if my order was indeed gluten free they weren't sure if it was so I had to ask the cook who said it was after looking inside the bag. I know people are learning but food safe and allergies should be taken super seriously and marked on the outside of the bag. Unfortunately I did feel a bit sick the next day but of course I can't confirm if it was cross contamination from this place or not. Just makes me feel uneasy if I'd ever eat there again. The burger patty is also very plain, crumbly and doesn't have much seasoning. But all locations have this issue and the recipe hasn't changed in a while. Also when I asked for ketchup to go they didn't have any ready and looked confused on what to do. All other locations have ketchup ready in containers...
