Floyd's Diner is consistently good quality. It's got a hipster vibe, meaning that it is decorated inside with 50s memorabilia, and lots of 35 year olds with cool beards hang out there. You will see blue hair, tattoos, piercings, and so on. But you will also see families and just general people hanging out because the food is good and interesting. Price-wise it is a little on the high side. Yesterday I went there and I ordered one of their most popular breakfasts, which is compose of fried chicken chopped up on waffles with poached eggs and hollandaise on top, and dollar hash browns on the side. The cost of this dish is $19. Is it worth it? Yes, because they make really good Hollandaise sauce and the portions are big. It's actually enough for two breakfast, unless you are a big eater. Our experience yesterday was particularly fun because we chose to sit in our vehicle and be served in the old school way, where they come to your car and hook a tray to your rolled down window. This was so excellent for covid restrictions. It also makes me think of the drive-in hamburger joints of my youth. I'm still super happy about the experience. Our waitress was super friendly, super competent, and super bubbly. She was wearing a Wonder Woman face mask. For all I know she really was Wonder Woman :-). If I had one thing to complain about it was that my dish was a wee bit cold, but not enough to make me to detract stars. This place has always been good, and popular, but often there is a lineup which turns my husband off. He has no patience. The drive-in feature changed that. Service was quick and efficient, and we didn't have to unbuckle the grandkid or force it to sit in a seat when it wants to run around and act like a knob . Great breakfast...
Read moreThis is based on only one visit but I think Floyds is my new go-to restaurant. I recently arrived in the province and frankly I've been really disappointed by every single diner I've gone into. Floyd's on the other hand exceeded my expectations.
Great friendly service. Our server was thoughtful and attentive. Everyone had great energy for such an obviously hectic shift (Sunday high noon). Place had a great vibe. Rare in today's post Covid industry.
They have a phone call waiting list for busy periods. You arrive, leave your phone # and they'll call you when a table opens. Best system in my opinion. Plenty of parking too. Very accessible, we wheeled our stroller inside no problem.
Food itself was great value. Large portions, tasty, hearty. Kids menu also was good quality, I was pleasantly surprised that the kids chicken fingers were real strips of chicken meat, not the usual el cheapo stuff. Most restaurants, even high price ones, are totally content to serve kids sh*tty food, but here I noticed they take way more care. The milk had a little sippy lid and we were immediately offered a highchair upon entering. Definitely a family friendly environment. The server also made a point of putting the kid's food on a room temperature plate instead of serving it on a scalding hot plate, first time I've ever had a server show such forethought.
I am oldschool, unfortunately I am the type to look for things, any thing i dont like when I'm at a restaurant, any reason to gripe and not tip, my wife hates it, but I was completely happy at Floyds. Their menu is huge so I am interested in returning and trying more of their offerings. We will definitely...
Read moreWhile waiting for my food, one of their large framed art hung up high came crashing down on my head before hitting the ground due to someone banging opposite of the wall. A family of three sitting in the table over asked if I was okay before any of the staff noticed me or my injuries. The first staff to respond was more concerned as to why the framed art was on the ground, then busted a lame joke asking if Elvis (art portrait) had beef against me. It was a very heavy piece and I did not find the joking comment funny or appropriate because it was the sharp frame corner that hit me square on the top of my head.
The staff asked for ice but I refused because there was no bump felt, only very sharp pain on my head. They asked me if I wanted coffee and while I normally declined, I said yes because I thought it would at least be complimentary due to circumstance I was still dazed and under shock. I was glad the artwork didn't crash on the child from said table next to us.
No discount were applied on the receipt, no follow up on my condition nor apologies were given to me or my boyfriend who paid the meal.
This is my first time going to this diner location and will certainly be my last; only stopped by here because we just drove back from Nanaimo, my boyfriend has been a patron with his friends at this location before, and decided for an eat before doing a Costco run. I will definitely stick to the one downtown; been a patron at that location for years without...
