MR MIKES SteakhouseCasual — Restaurant in Langford

Extremely disappointed with our experience. Our wedding anniversary was tonight, Dec 31st. The plan was to stay at 4 point Sheraton Langford and order steak dinner from Mr. Mike's, 2 minutes down the road from the hotel, because the hotel restaurants are closed due to COVID. The intent was to support local restaurant

I contacted Mr. Mike's on Dec 30th to enquire what the best time was to order take out for Dec 31st . As it was New Year's Eve, I wanted to ensure there was no special timings for ordering. I told them we were staying in the hotel up the road, and we do pick-up. I was told we could phone order in on Dec 31st, should be no issues.

I called Mr Mike's at 11:00 a.m. on Dec 31st and placed our dinner order for a 5:00 p.m. pick-up. Was told that was a good time as it allowed hostess to give kitchen staff plenty of time to prepare dinner so it would be hot when we picked it up.

Arrived at Mr. Mike's at 5:00, order was not ready. Waited 15 minutes to receive our take out dinner, paid the bill including a 20% tip because it was New Year's and we recognized kitchen work hard. Total bill was approximately $120.

Drove back to hotel (2 minutes away) and prepared to eat our dinner, which was COLD! Everything, included our spinach dip appy, our $29 steaks, mashed potatoes, vegetables, garlic mushroom, which cost extra....Everything was COLD.

I called the restaurant and spoke to a gentleman, I believe his name was Aaron, who apologized for our expensive cold dinner. He said the kitchen staff was overwhelmed with orders. He did offer to make us a new dinner which I declined (perhaps I shouldn't have) because it would have involved getting back in the car and driving back to the restaurant and likely waiting again. I figured it the kitchen was overwhelmed at 5:00 with orders, one of which was the one that I placed at 11:00 a.m., me ordering a replacement dinner wasn't going to help their kitchen situation. So we ate my cold Anniversary dinner.

Mr. Mike's, if you are that overwhelmed with orders at 5:00 p.m., you should say so when people call for take--out. Perhaps have staggered times for take-out for special occasions. Or stop taking orders if you can't manage the volume.

I realize times are tough right now, but when you are charging $29 for a steak plus extra for mushrooms etc. the food should be hot when people come to pick it up. Especially if the pick up time is 5:00 and I still waited an additional 15 minutes for the food. I assumed it was because the kitchen was busy. Obviously if my dinner was cold it sat for awhile before it was packaged up and given to me.

Very, very, disappointed. 🤨

I do acknowledge that you offered to remake my meal. However, as mentioned we'd waited for our meal when we arrived, and as your kitchen was overwhelmed/busy, I was concerned about having to wait again. Plus, as it was our Anniversary, we had another booking after dinner and did not have the time to drive back to the restaurant and wait for a replacement meal.

I will gratefully accept a gift card so we can have a nice meal another at your restaurant.

My family and I have been going to Mr.Mike's for years and they never disappoint. Always have friendly staff, great food and a clean environment. Unfortunately the one in Langford,BC does not follow the same standards that the ones in Grand Prairie, Ab and Duncan, BC. When we walked in we were the ONLY ones in the main dining area and I think the Lounge had one small table they were serving at the time. Our waitress was nice but waited on us as if she was incredibly busy and had 8 tables going at that time. I had to call her over for the orders etc.. which would briefly interrupt her discussion with the kitchen staff. Which may I add, was also a VERY informative discussion ... my kids along with my mother and I had the pleasure of finding out what the cooks new safe word was WHILE watching him plate our food AND eat a few fries off of our plates at the same time.

When the food came out it tasted good (the only thing I could complain about if I was being picky was that the fries were over cooked and the stuffed mushrooms were not cooked enough .. usually the stuffed-shrooms have a nice browned top). My kids had chicken strips with fries (which were great) and my mom had the china town chicken stir fry which was covered in WAY too much sauce .. she only ate half her meal becuase it was just too much.

After that we started our hour long car ride home, which my mom spent the whole time feeling sick. We made it home and not long after that I was sick as well. This was the first time ever that we have gotten sick from eating a Mr.Mikes .. we have always had great experiences with this chain of restaurants and I am actually shocked we both got SO sick from this location.

It was strange .. the fries did not taste too salty but on the way home we both complained about the overwhelming after taste of salt and feeling sick on top of that.

The only great thing I can say about this location is the board games. They had a ton of games you could pick through and play while waiting for your meal. GREAT idea .. especially for little kids who tend to get a little bored while waiting for their meal. I did ask the waitress if we could play the connect 4 at the table and her response was 'yeah go grab it yourself' .. I had ZERO issues grabbing it ...but her response seemed a little off, like I said when we sat down we were her ONLY table.

Now its the next morning and I still am not feeling 100% ... hoping this passes soon. Thanks Mr.Mikes

EDIT ...After the response from the Management (Below) I DID call in as requested. I spoke to a Male manager on duty (can not remember his name). He thanked me for calling in and quickly looked up my review on line, apologized that they "dropped the ball many times throughout our visit". He than told me that he was not 100% sure what the owner wanted to ask me and took my information so they could call me back. That was OVER A WEEK AGO .. wow crazy bad customer service at this location. If and when we decide to go back to Mr.Mikes it will for sure be at ANY location OTHER...

This was our second time at Mr Mikes. The first time was a few months ago and was very confusing... We had 3 different waitresses. The first one took our drink order and came back in a timely manner with the ordered drinks. When she came back she informed us she was moving to work the bar and introduced us to our new waitress. The second waitress took our appys order as well as our dinner. It took 30 mins for our food to come out. This is when we meet our 3rd waitress. The appys came with our dinner and were cold. Our 3rd waitress didn't come back to check on the table until we were finished and ready for our bill. The food was pretty good (minus the cold appys) We went back a second time giving the establishment the benefit of the doubt as it was pretty busy our first time. It was for my birthday dinner. Initially we were happy with the service. Our waitress was very nice and brought our drinks in a timely manner. After we ordered our appys and dinner, it was completely down hill from there... Everyone else's appys came out within 15 mins. I asked where my appy were and our waitress informed me she would go check and didn't return until she brought out everyone's meal. Again, I was brought my appy with my dinner. My friend and I ordered the steak Oscar. My steak was tasteless and very chewy.. My friends steak was blue rare when she ordered medium... My friend tried to get our waitresses attention with no success. She sat there waiting for 10 mins before our waitress heard my friends husband call out to her. My friends steak was brought back to the kitchen to correct the issue. When it returned 15 mins later we had all finished our dinner.. My friends dinner was half the portion then the original plate.the steak was burnt on the outside and the inside of the steak was still rare. Again, she sat the 10 mins before our waitress came back to check on my friend. But by this time, my friend didn't want to eat.. We went well after the dinner rush. The restaurant was not busy.. We all decided to have one more drink before we left. Our waitress brought the drink order to the bar tender. The bar tender was quick and effective. However our waitress was not. We saw our drinks sitting on the bar for 10 mins while we watched our waitress stand on the other side of the room talking to a coworker. Eventually my friends husband had enough and went to the bar and picked up our drinks. Our waitress came straight over and apologized but we had had enough.. We asked for our bill so we could leave. I felt horrible that all my friends came to celebrate my birthday and had a horrible experience.. We won't be...
