have not eaten chinese food since just after the old Regent closed.we found that a lot of places were willing to deep fry everything and raise prices quickley and for got about the quality of the food. today we thought we would try The New Shanghai as we had heard a few good things about the food...they were wrong!! chicken fried rice was made with stringy dried little thin sheds of chicjen , roce was so dry that with the combination of the rice and chicken ,we almost choked on it and found it very hard to swallow, suggest using a little oil fir a moisture factor but it was hot. chow mein was the same dry chicken pieces ,a few were like peanut size bites that were so dry and chewey we did not finish it, again it was hot! and finally the beef and broccoli salty not really a defined "beef" flavour and the broccoli itself was so crunchy it seemed to not even be cooked to any level it tasted like plain old raw broccoli, it does need to be cooked a little not just swirled around in the wok, again it was hot!! Ordered the dinner for 3 , the chowmein that came with the meal was horrid . I’ve ordered chowmein for years . It’s one of my favourite dishes , although what I got from here was not chowmein. It was mushy flavourless cabbage with a few noodles and looked like left over chicken scraps ( looked like cat food ) . First and last time I will order from here . If you’re looking for chowmein this is not the place to get it I suggest they update the menu to WARN customers of what their idea of chowmein is . I think these are the only people who don’t know how to make their own national foods lol. The little white girl taking orders is completely simple it’s kinda sad ( stay in school girl ) I called to see if there’s anything that can be done 🔼 same girl said “ we can make the Cantonese chowmein but you’ll have to pay the DIFFERENCE. My husband picked it up and was made to pay full price . I warn you , do not waste your time nor your money here . Hospital food is better than this garbage they call food . Take this review with a grain of salt because I'm sure that most of the issues were caused by the Christmas eve rush. We ordered from them on Christmas eve at 5:30. All other Chinese restaurants stopped taking orders but they accepted our order. we chose to do delivery because we were quoted 2hr dlvry and 1.75hr pick up. We didn't receive the food until 8:30, 3hr after ordering but it was obviously a busy night so no problem. when we sat down to eat, my wife took one bite of the Mongolian beef slices and got a bad reaction and couldn't eat the rest. I found later that there was cauliflower in the dish and we specifically requested on cauliflower due to an allergy. The food was not bad for myself. Again I believe that these issues were caused by the crazy busy rush of Christmas eve. However our experience was less than appealing. Will try again later to see if issues...
