Swad Restaurant is a culinary treasure that brings the rich and authentic flavors of South India to Alberta. From the moment we walked in, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The restaurant offers ample parking, making it stress-free to visit, and the ambiance strikes the perfect balance between calm and vibrantâa welcoming setting for any occasion.
We have tried South Indian biryani and beef roast at various restaurants across Alberta, but Swad Restaurant has truly set a new benchmark. Nowhere else have we encountered such an authentic and realistic Malabar taste. The Chicken 65 Biryani was a revelation, with tender, perfectly spiced chicken paired with fragrant, flavorful rice. The Goat Biryani was equally outstanding, with succulent pieces of meat cooked to perfection and infused with spices that transported us straight to Kerala.
The Beef Roast was a standout dish, rich in flavor and impeccably spiced, delivering a true taste of home-cooked Malabar cuisine. The Kerala Porota was soft, flaky, and fresh, serving as the ideal accompaniment. The Beef Kothu Porota was another highlight, with its shredded porota and spiced beef mixed to create a dish that was both hearty and bursting with flavor. We rounded off the meal with a Sharjah Shake, a creamy and refreshing treat that perfectly complemented the meal.
Beyond the exceptional food, the cleanliness of the restaurant and the attentive, friendly service made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Every detail reflected the restaurant's commitment to quality and authenticity.
Swad Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine South Indian flavors. It is, without a doubt, the best place to savor Malabar cuisine in Alberta. We canât wait to return and explore more of their...
Read moreVisited Swad twice this week and I had great food both times. I have never eaten at a south indian restaurant before so I am unfamiliar with some of their dishes. Hopefully this review will help others not familiar with south indian cuisine try their dishes.
For starters, we had mixed veggie pakora (really good), samosas (my favorite and I think the best in the city) and vada (crispy and delicious). The samosa came with sambar (lentil soup) and 2 types of chutney, tamarind and mint. I prefer the tamarind chutney as it is sweeter. The vada came with sambar as well as 2 chutney ( a tomato based and coconut based chutney). We ordered butter chicken dosa and it was really good. Dosa resembles a crepe with filling inside. This dish is a hit for my family. We also ordered butter chicken as my daughter loves that dish and we were not disappointed. I find the sauce thicker and flavourful, great for dipping bread and with rice. We also tried Fish Mango Curry (the fish was cooked nicely and the sauce was flavourful) and Beef Coconut Fry (savory and tasty). The flat bread selection they offer are also great. You get 2 pieces per order. Kallappam almost resembles pancakes great for dipping into your dish. My husband and I prefers this, however my daughter likes the Kerala Porotta. It's layered, flaky and crispy flat bread. The service is great. The staff are very friendly and attentive. You can also request your spice levels. We will...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of celebrating our friend Wendyâs birthday yesterday at Swad. Weâre so happy that everyone that could make it out and thank you so much for surprising us and joining Ian! Swad is a new south Indian restaurant in Lethbridge, Alberta, and I can't express how impressed I am. From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance set the stage for an incredible culinary experience.
The passion of the chef shines through in every dish, making it, in my opinion, the best Indian food in town. The diverse and unique flavors were a delightful surprise, with the dosa and mango shrimp curry standing out as absolute highlights. The pakora was a taste sensation, and their distinct take on bread added an extra layer of deliciousness.
What truly set this place apart was the impeccable service and the ability to cater to a large group effortlessly. We celebrated a birthday party, and everyone left with smiles and satisfied taste buds â a testament to the restaurant's commitment to excellence.
As if the culinary journey wasn't enough, the proximity to an escape room made it a perfect Saturday outing. To top it off, the masala chai was a comforting treat, especially on a cold winter day.
Kudos to the team at Swad for creating such a unique and enjoyable dining experience. I'm already looking forward to my next visit â a true gem...
