Thuan Hoa Restaurant — Restaurant in Lethbridge

Picture this, a person walks into a restaurant and stands waiting to be seated. The serving staff are too wrapped up into their important work of counting tips and looking at the floor to even acknowledge his existence. He stands there while not one but two servers ignore him. He stands there for an uncomfortable length of time while the handful of folks in the restaurant notice he is standing there and even they begin to look uncomfortable. Thinking he may have made a mistake and is supposed to seat himself he sits at a table. At this point a third server walks in goes behind the counter and without washing her hands gets ready to get to work. After a wait that seems like an eternity the man politely gets up and without an acknowledgement by three serving staff walks out unnoticed.

This was my second experience at this restaurant. The last time the servers, without washing their hands, handled money and other peoples dirty dishes before grabbing fresh plates of food and brought it to the tables. (Did I mention they didn't wash their hands?)

I will never step foot in Thuan Hoa again.

I'm picky about my Pho. I give a place a try a few times to make sure that I didn't just go on a bad day. Then when I find a gem they get my loyalty. Coming from Edmonton there are many choices and locations and varying quality. When you walk into to place and you are the only Caucasian you knowbyou are in the right place for Vietnamese. Thuan Hoa won me over without a word. Loaded pho, salad roll, and iced coffee. I'm told there are better places in Lethbridge, but I've yet go to others. Am I missing out? Not really because I found what I'm looking for here. Tripe done right is not found at every place. It's the way I like it here. I actually don't like salad rolls at most places. So the salad roll test is usually the first sign if I'm going to be back to a place. And yes they past the salad roll test. The portions are great for pho. As for other dishes on the menu, I don't know. Once I find a delight I tend to gravitate to that even though everytime I say next time I will try something else. This Vietnamese restaurant has delicious food. The ingredients are always fresh, the food is always consistant, the portion sizes are huge, the food comes out fast, the service is good, and the prices are more than fair. They don't even charge an additional fee for things like extra peanut sauce. And they never try to upsell anything. They just give you what you ask for. Vietnamese food is also a great option for gluten free diets due to the majority of carb sides that are offered are rice and rice noodles. The only thing this restaurant lacks is warmth. Literally and figuratively. The temperature is definitely on the cool side, and the atmosphere is also cool. It does not have comfy cozy lighting, colours, or the safety of booths. But it is a very clean restaurant. Everything else is so amazing that it is well worth the visit, despite the lack of warmth. This restuarant is one of the finest little gems in Lethbridge.
