Came here for the first time with my family today. Unfortunately our experience was not great, hence the one star.
Atmosphere Nothing much to note here. Not exactly welcoming but not dirty. I didn’t use their facilities so I cannot speak on that but the chairs were old and cracking and much of the decor was from the restaurant that was there previously.
Service They were really trying to hard sell some of their seafood dishes. We ordered three lunch combos for our party of three but she suggested we buy an additional dish of vegetables because we haven’t ordered any vegetable dishes. We ordered it because we felt pressured to do so but we regretted it. All our dishes contained vegetables and we couldn’t finish the three dishes we originally ordered. We could have said no but we were uncomfortable with the hard sell.
Also, since we ordered the lunch combo, milk tea and soup is included. They forgot to give us our soup until we asked for it halfway through our meal.
Food Unfortunately the food was only ok. Nothing to get excited about. We ordered three noodle dishes (plus the veg dish they told us we should order). Really nothing spectacular.
But the main reason I’m writing this review is because we found a wire (thin and at least 2 inches long) in one of the noodle dish. I found it as I chewed on it and noticed something was not right. Not sure if there was more and we had already ingested it but we immediately brought it to their attention. Their initial reaction was to ask if we wanted a replacement dish but by this time, it was already towards the end of the meal and we didn’t want another dish. She said (in Chinese), “sorry, how do you want to deal with this?” And we just said we are letting them know because this could be very dangerous, especially with children. She asked to check if I was ok and that was the end of it. We were kind of disappointed with their reaction and that they did not comp us for the dish or offer a small discount.
Suffice it to say, we will not...
Read moreSpent a good Boxing Day shopping then found a restaurant open till 10pm confirmed by calling them at 8pm. Upon arriving at 9:20pm and looking in there were no customers and it seemed they were sweeping up. Then someone that seemed like the owner or manager comes out and asks if we were here for dinner we responded yes then he says they are closed for the night then he process to drive off in his Range Rover. Being from NYC We are used to having many restaurants open late for dinner apparently not in the Toronto area. Spent some time in the parking lot looking for a restaurant which would be opened after 10pm and found Hqppy Fishman open to 1am - called them to confirm. Drove over and we were very happy we found this gem. New and clean restaurant with friendly staff. We ordered one of their set dinners which consisted of 2 fresh live lobsters cooked 2 ways, fried rice with lobster essence, tilapia fish which we were able to substitute with live grass bass fish steamed, steamed fresh chicken, shark fin soup, oysters, and baby bok choi. To end our meal we found out their Hong Kong milk tea is award winning so we ordered one - it’s one of our favorites in town now! The staff and owners are friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and prepared with care. They do their best to accommodate you and opened extremely late. What else is better than all this? We will be back next time we...
Read moreI don't know when Happy Fishman replaced the Asian Legend but I wish I knew earlier. This place is very nice! The food quality and price is extremely fair. I will definitely be back with my family.
The most popular combo is probably the lobster/crab/bass one that comes with your choice of one to four dishes, a chicken dish, soup, and steamed rice. We chose the lobster, and due to market price we had to add $15 on top of the base price. But I still think it was very worth it, where else can you get a lobster dinner for under $100? It comes with two lobsters and can be made into HK style, which was very tasty and the portion was actually pretty good. We chose the three dish combo which came out to $76 + $15 surcharge for the lobster, which is very good value in Toronto these days. The dishes are good sized dishes as well, and the Sichuan boiled fish was one of the better ones I've had in Toronto which was surprising to me! The only miss was the 梅菜扣肉, which did NOT look like a traditional 梅菜扣肉. It was a meat patty with the preserved vegetable on top of it, which is pretty weird since I didn't think there were interpretations of this dish. I didn't like the taste of this one either, so I'll probably pick something else next time. The last dish we got was sweet and sour pork and it was good.
Definitely will be back. Service was decent for a Chinese restaurant,...
