If I wanted someone to serve me a sandwich with an attitude I would of stayed home...
So I go here with my cousin to try it out. Line is out the door and we have no issue with it. The place just opened so its understandable.
Line took about 25 mins. Ordered and got my food. All is well. I go outside while I wait for my cousin to finish up his order.. I would say 5 minutes pass by and I'm wondering what's going on. Turns out they gave one of his sandwiches away to someone with the same name. I'm like OK everyone makes mistakes. Go back outside.
After a while I realize I've been waiting for has to be about 10 minutes. I go back in and ask my cousin what's going and he's not sure. Apparently, the cashier had already asked one of the workers to make the sandwich.. My cousin is a bit shy and non-confrontational so I get him to point out who's suppose to be taking care of his order. I asked the worker what's going with the order and immediately I know they've forgotten about it. He talks to another worker and I see only then are they starting to get the ball rolling. They don't look at me or acknowledge what's going on, I can see they're avoiding telling me they messed up. At this point I'm annoyed, but we wait.
Aside from being a little assertive asking what's going on with the order I have in no way been rude. Now, because they haven't told us anything we're still here trying to figure out if the sandwich we saw them start making is for us. We wait another 5 mins before I ask the guy again what's going on... Now , this girl at the register gets annoyed with me and starts giving me attitude telling me we have to wait...
I'm like hold up.. we've been waiting this whole time without you telling us what's going on. Not one time while I was waiting did you acknowledge us, give an update or admit you messed up. She keeps brushing us off all annoyed giving me attitude while I try to explain to her that if I hadn't asked the other worker about the order it wouldn't have even gone anywhere... She totally disregards me. Doesn't acknowledge what I'm saying so I'm pissed now.
The sandwich finally comes and I tell her that all she had to do was tell us what was happening. She gives me a sarcastic "I understand. Thank you" without looking at me... (I'm telling you, If this was a dude saying this to me..)
The worst thing is I gave this girl a tip for my first order before the issue arose with my cousin's order. If I wasn't there I'm convinced my cousin would have been there forever.
I'm still pissed enough at 1 AM to write this Karen rant and feel like it is deserved.. I can't even say if the sandwich was good as I was pissed off the whole time eating it. It was soggy by the...
Read moreAfter all the hype I’ve seen about Jersey Mike’s being the #1 sub franchise in America, I was excited to try it out at their Markham location just after their opening. And, after a 30 minute wait in line, was it worth all the hype? In my opinion - no.
Now don’t get me wrong, that’s not to say the subs are bad by any stretch - they’re decent. But I wasn’t blown away. I ordered a giant Original Italian and a giant Chicken Bacon Ranch. The cold cuts and provolone cheese in the Original Italian were fresh and plentiful, and the fresh toppings like lettuce, tomato and onion, I think, are mandatory to cut through all that meat and cheese. It was a textbook cold cut sub - no complaints, but no wow factor either.
The Chicken Bacon Ranch, however, was mediocre at best. They claim they use applewood smoked bacon, but I couldn’t taste any hint of applewood smoke in it, and the texture of the bacon was a little off. I’m pretty sure it had been reheated in the microwave from that texture, and I didn’t particularly enjoy it. The ranch sauce was kinda meh, and I would have preferred the chicken was whole pieces or breasts instead of shredded, as it made for a mushy affair. I personally prefer the Chicken Bacon Ranch from Firehouse Subs over Jersey Mike’s.
Service was also very disjointed and made for a lot of confusion. After taking my order, I was asked to cash out, then come back to the topping station to tell them what I wanted on it. Thing is, at the topping station, they only used the sub sizes and numbers instead of customer names to identify orders, and, thinking they were working on my order, I told them the toppings I wanted on my subs… only for 5 seconds later to have my name called at the cash with my subs already in the bag and not to my specifications. So I effectively screwed someone else’s order up, and mine didn’t get filled as desired. Given the long line and ensuing chaos, I just took my subs as they were in the bag. Though not that the extra toppings I wanted would have really changed my review much.
Overall, would I wait 30 minutes to order from them ever again? No. At $25 after tax for their “giant” subs, which are slightly more than footlongs, they’re also a fair bit pricier compared to the competition, and I don’t feel the price premium offers something above their competitors to warrant it. And they really need to get their ordering / topping system in order - pun intended.
All in all, I still prefer Firehouse Subs. They’re a few bucks cheaper and taste better...
Read moreAlongside many others, I was very excited for this Jersey Mike's location to open, close enough to me that I could visit whenever I want. The plaza it is located in has many other great food options so this is a nice addition. Parking is usually easy to find as well, adding to the location's value.
Upon entering, you note their unique decor which adds to the chill and relaxed vibe. I was greeted immediately upon walking to the counter by an employee with a big smile. I opted for the #12 Cancro Special which has provolone, roast beef, and pepperoni. Since I was hoping to feed two, he recommended the giant size. I loved the combination and as tasty as the sub was, I think it would have been even better warm with the cheese melted. They do have warm subs to choose from and that'll be what I plan to order on my next visit.
I must say, I was thoroughly impressed with the assembly by the staff. After the meat and cheese, my sandwich was loaded with lettuce, tomato, mayo, olive oil, vinegar, and banana peppers. It was stacked so high yet the employee made it look like an effortless build with barely any mess. What a well constructed sandwich! After looking at the calories on their site though, I had a mild heart attack that it came to a whopping 2,000+ calories so I'd be cautious with the mayo and olive oil, which were the real killers and I personally could do without.
Other than the quality of their food, I was very happy with the service. Again, I was greeted nicely upon ordering and when cashing out as well. I had a coupon emailed to me for signing up for their rewards and despite some difficulty with getting it to scan, the employees were persistent and adjusted the price to honor it.
Lastly, my sandwich did come to $20+ which was expensive in my opinion but I'm tempted to return given the quality and service. It won't be a regular thing for me but definitely a treat. I'll have to look into their rewards program more as well since this might sweeten the deal. I did see a poster outside saying Tuesdays are double points...
