Ordered matcha soft serve in a cup and white rabbit soft serve with charcoal cone
Taste: 1/5 White rabbit did not taste like the white rabbit candy. Perhaps it had a very slight hint of white rabbit taste upon first lick but that was about it. The ice cream just tasted bland and cold, ice ratio seems to be way higher than the flavour. Honestly, McDonald’s vanillas soft serve is better than this at a fraction of the cost. This bland icecream costs $6.50 plus tax. If you want to reminisce childhood moments, the actual white rabbit candy will likely bring you more satisfaction than this costly, flavorless, high calorie / sugar consumption (regret)
Matcha soft serve was equally tasteless to the point that after the first bite, we wanted to ask the server if something went wrong with the icecream. We ordered their store name product which we presume should be a pretty signature piece. Unfortunately, perhaps it was due to lack of customers over pandemic time that they had a back log of ingredients they were trying to use up because the matcha tasted bad! You can literally taste the separation - the bitterness of the matcha powder and then the icy water feeling. We wanted to throw it out after the first bite but lamented over the $15 dollars spent on this piece of JUNK food.
Charcoal cone - stale... tasted like an expired cookie/nut... like those times after the first bite, you find yourself checking the back of the box to see if something has expired. Yup, deja vu that moment with this charcoal cone! I did throw this part out in the end.
Service-lack Icecream/dessert ordering is meant to be a joyous time... a time when you are also paying for seeing the server scoop/swirl that icecream up for you. Here you get the contactless ordering with an iPad situated outside their cluttered store. No bell or even a chance to say hello at a distance. No person in sight as the store only had the door left ajar with stockpile of stuff blocking the line of sight to where they could possibly swirl that icecream. No giddy or happiness feeling from the anticipation during ordering. Instead, be prepared to be overcome by a sense of rejection, fear and uncertainty (from the store) as you navigate on your own on their ipads in an empty hallway. And due to their lack of available service, we were discouraged to voice our concerns with their icecream. Note: restaurants have already opened for dining indoor at this point (late August 2021).
Cost: see those beautiful photos of gold and silver paper on top of the icecream? Be prepared to add an additional $5 ish and & $3 ish respectively. Given the lack thereof quality of their signature icecream items, I am so glad we did not waste additional money.
Lastly, don’t buy into those beautiful Instagram photos. They are only...

Hi and welcome to another episode of javing it with Javier. Let's see what we are javing today. My friends and I passed by this place because the line was too long at the hipster alley bubble tea place right beside it. I've never had matcha ice cream before so I was excited to give this a try. I ordered the matcha ice cream with a chocolate cone. Let's dive right into the review.
The ice cream sure looked fancy. It reminded me of the cremia ice cream I had in Japan which was amazingggg by the way. Anyways just like cremia the cone was pretty small but that wouldn't matter if it tasted amazing. Having my first bite I realized it was not the case. It had a very light matcha taste. Not very overwhelming and it would be great for people who don't like desserts too sweet. But then why would you be getting ice cream anyways :P The cone was very surprising as well. It didn't taste chocolatey at all. It tasted like any regular cone. So unfortunate that I got jebaited into paying extra for this cone.
From what I could remember this cone was expensive as well. I think it costed 7 or 8 dollars? The ice cream itself was OK but it was definitely overpriced and I was not satisfied after eating it.
In conclusion, the matcha ice cream was a good try. However I cannot confidently say that I would recommend this ice cream to others. I'd much rather order an Oreo McFlurry next time instead. That's it for today's episode of javing it with Javier. And remember...
Read moreThere are certain times in life when you're meant to try its finer things. Sometimes you go on an island vacation. Sometimes you buy yourself a spa weekend. This time we splurged on some gold coated ice cream.
To get our hands on one of these we headed to Matcha Tea & Desserts in Markham. This dessert shop is a small establishment, tucked away in a plaza. Though there is no seating inside the shop, just outside you'll find some stools.
So let's get to the burning questions... Does gold taste delicious?! Does it enhance my ice cream?! Not in the slightest. Don't expect the gold to somehow upgrade you dessert experience by awaking your taste buds to highbrow flavours. The gold is next to flavourless, (as long as you don't stick a lot of your tongue flat against a big piece of it). Your goal here is to enjoy the novelty of the experience. Raise you pinky finger high while you enjoy your cone. Or maybe stand a little taller and be more confident, because you're eating this to feel snazzy and be that guy/gal who eats gold for fun!
Anyway, if you're curious, the ice cream itself was delicious. Theirs is based off of white soybean Vitasoy, which made for a new flavour for me that I really enjoyed.
Two of my minor annoyances are that on the two occasions I came before, during the first they were closed early, then during the second they ran out of ice cream. (Common...)
If you want a taste of the high life, swing by Matcha...
