Miss Qu BBQ & Restaurant just opened this Monday at Commerce Gate. Let’s start off with the ambiance, I really like the warm feeling and lighting. It was comfortable on a rainy, snowy day a soothing sensation.
The waitresses were nice and friendly, well one or two of them and their caps have these little stuffed animals on it such as different colour dinosaurs!
Now with the food, the Preserved Egg and Eggplant Stir-fried with Spicy was in a big mug similar to a mortar. Interesting unique concept and combination of ingredients, I ordered medium spice and it was spicy. I would describe it like a Chinese version of guacamole in terms of the presentation. You can pick your spicy level for most of the items, not spicy, medium spicy and very spicy, little salt, little sugar, no green onion, very detailed you just select it yourself on the app to customize. You scan and order on the OR code.
I’ve also ordered a roasted seitan, a rich protein made out of gluten. I find this a little dry. The Taiwanese sweet sausage, I find it a little too sweet for my palate. The scallops with garlic vermicelli (4p) usually one of my go to items that I order at these skewer spot but this one the vermicelli was dry and overcooked.
The shrimp wrapped in chicken skin, the skin was not crispy enough. It was a small shrimp wrapped inside the chicken skin. I thought it would be shrimp paste. The Ecstasy Bamboo Stick Fish tasted decent but did not look thin like the photo on the menu. The Crab roe tofu the consistency, I find it a little watery, not thick enough. Alcohol is ready and available from beer to yogurt flavour soju. As of now, if you pay cash 10% off. Overall, I will give this...
Read moreMiss Qu is a newly opened Chinese restaurant in Commerce Gate that's focused on BBQ/ skewer in northern Chinese style (according to my friend). The ambiance was cozy and bright and plenty of tables and seating. They did get a lot of customers despite being on a weekday when we went, and we went at around 6pm. You order everything via QR code, and the menu's available in both English and Chinese though there's only photos available in the skewers section.
They have quite a selection of skewers to order and you could pick the spice level for each order, so it's suitable for everyone's palate. Each order of skewers, depending on the item, they would range from 2 skewers to even 6 skewers per order. We quite enjoyed the fried sweet potato skin, which was crepe looking dish with some minced meat & beans wrapped with a big piece of potato noodle. It was a little crispy on the outside and crunchy inside. The skewers were all cooked in the kitchen and when they brought out to the table, they put it on the small grill that's already on the table. However, though the "grill" was supposed to keep the skewers warm/ hot, it didn't serve its purpose when it's only source of heat was one little tea candle underneath the...
Read moreEggplant lovers, you’re in for a revelation: the deep-fried aubergine at this spot is nothing short of mind-blowing. Each slice arrives uniformly thick, its exterior crackling like caramelized lace, giving way to a melting-soft core that practically oozes with flavor. A deft brush of sweet-and-salty glaze accentuates the natural earthiness of the eggplant, creating a harmony of textures and tastes that’s simultaneously light and indulgent—crispy without the chewiness, rich without the grease. I’d happily award this dish five stars all on its own.
The clams, by comparison, were solid but not spectacular. They carried the bold kick of Sichuan peppercorn and fermented black bean paste perfectly, yet a touch of overcooking left them firmer than ideal, and the sauce could’ve been a bit more generous. Still, the balance of numbing heat and umami made every bite enjoyable.
One of the best things? You can tailor the spice level to your palate—whether you want merely a whisper of warmth or a full-on mala inferno, they’ve got you covered across nearly the entire menu.
Verdict: Eggplant—⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐; Clams—⭐⭐⭐☆☆; Overall experience—⭐⭐⭐⭐☆. Don’t miss this place if you think you’ve tasted all an...
