We recently ordered the Maki Family Package from Oishi Sushi in Thornhill and, unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. We were looking forward to a fresh sushi dinner, but what we received did not meet expectations at all.
The biggest issue was the freshness. The sushi rice was dry and felt like it had been prepared hours earlier. The fish and other fillings lacked the clean taste you expect from sushi; instead, they tasted flat and were not appealing. Sushi is all about freshness, and sadly this order really fell short in that area.
Presentation was also below average. The rolls looked uneven and a bit messy, not like the neat and appetizing pictures shown online. When you order a family package, you expect it to look as good as it tastes, but this one missed that mark.
On a positive note, the service was acceptable. The staff was polite during pickup, but the quality of the food overshadowed everything else. Considering the price, we were hoping for a much better experience.
Overall, I would rate our visit 2 stars. It wasn’t inedible, but it was definitely not enjoyable, and we won’t be rushing back. With so many good sushi restaurants in Thornhill, Oishi Sushi really needs to focus on freshness and quality if they want...
Read moreThis is a japanese-owned sushi restaurant with a marvelous Japanese chef who used to work in the Roppongi Hills upscale Tokyo area. Oishi means tasty in Japanese and this quaint but delicious eatery does not disappoint.
It's one of the few places where I tip more than the standard because the quality, service and friendliness is quite above par.
The lunch special is a steal for what you get, and any other food is prepared fresh at a very affordable price. This is one of the rare places where the humble owner just wants to serve consistently quality food.
Order 80% of what you think you need and you will always be satisfied - that is, wanting...
Read moreOrdered from Oishi Sushi a handful of times and it has been consistently good. Definitely a takeout place but has a couple of small areas to eat if you want. The sushi tastes fresh and the owner is very pleasant and greets with a smile. He is a 1 man show and doesn't disappoint. The rolls are pretty big considering the fair price and they have the health/Hawaii rolls that are made with purple rice and wrapped in cucumber. So good! Two can eat from here for about $25-30 tax in. They give 10% cash discount as well. I will continue to support small businesses especially ones who take pride in...
