This would be the third time I have visited this location since Eggs for Life closed (RIP). This location stems from a Scarborough spot that has moved to this Markham neighborhood.
☆ Sunny Up Breaķfast. 7/10 @ $13
• 3 Eggs, Choice of 3 Bacon Strips, 3 Sausages or Ham. Home fries and your choice of White, Brown or Rye toast. Got my usual breakfast picks. Sunny side eggs, Sausage with toasted Rye. Yes of course a Coffee.
Food: Nothing really hit here as a big change from the previous but there was one difference ...Home fries. Lightly seasoned with green peppers, white onions. These unfortunately did not have a crisp to them but was a pleasant improvement from Eggs for Life. Classic all day breakfast coffee was the same.
Atmosphere: Not many changes to this restaurant after moving in about a year now. Newly painted walls and reupholstered seating stood out the most. Seating was available and the area was clean and tidy.
Below is what makes a big difference to me as a customer.
Service: First time coming to this restaurant I was a bit saddened to know that there was a change. We usually came for breakfast and always had the best service Busy or Not. The first couple times at Sunny Up I could tell that staff where still trying to get used to the flow (weekend breakfast) as the seating area was full and many people wanting to come in for breakfast. So I could understand the lack of hospitality but they still did the best they could.
The last visit I was a bit taken back from the experience. Very Few people seated at this time. As usual, come in and find a seat. Sat down waited for our menus and .... waited some more. Watched the waiter dance around to a couple other tables before coming over to let us know he is 'Getting the Menus', Perfect.
Owner and waiter working the seating area.
Ordered our drinks (coffee and water) and once the coffee came we ordered food. Food came out without a long wait.
Half way into brekkie the coffee cup is drying out and we have not been checked on at all. Nothing worse then having to rubber neck while trying to eat. Finally, we shot a couple flares to get there attention as I needed to wash this down. We asked the for coffee refills and the status of our previously ordered waters. She (owner) came back first with our waters but the icemaker was down..... then got our coffee top ups for us. Seating area had three tables occupied at this time...
🕛 Refill is now done... Plates are signaled with utensils grouped to the side and napkins on the plate to make it more obvious. Nothing. 🕛 Woot! Got there attention and asked for the bill. Waiting... the waiter comes back and lets us know that our order has been deleted by the other person and he needs to know what we had to charge us (basically thought we paid already)... we kindly told him and he returned promptly with our bill. I expressed my disappointment to the waiter about the wait and lack service. He understood and was sincerely apologetic.
Do not need a thousand table visits but at lease once is nice.... or leave the damb coffee carafe with me!
This really spoils this spot for me... really enjoyed the previous service even if the homefries aren't as good. This visit took twice as long as the last visit on a Sunday...
Read moreWe recently visited Sunny Up All Day Breakfast while we were in the area, and we’re so glad we did! After reading a few positive reviews online, we decided to give it a try during lunchtime. This charming little restaurant has a warm and cozy feel. It’s a family-owned place, and you can tell they take pride in both their food and their service. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in.
I ordered the Indian-style omelet, served with toast and homemade fries. It was full of flavor, cooked just right, and truly made my day. Others in our group ordered fish and chips, grilled salmon, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Each dish was made with care, tasted delicious, and came in generous portions. Everyone at our table was happy with their meal and talked about how tasty everything was.
What makes this place special is not just the food, but the atmosphere. It’s relaxed, clean, and perfect for a casual meal with family or friends. If you love all-day breakfast or are simply looking for a spot with good food and variety, Sunny Up All Day Breakfast is worth a visit. With plenty of options to choose from, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy. We’ll definitely be...
Read moreWe have breakfast here 3-4 times a month on weekends, and continued after the recent change in ownership and brand. I often get an omelet (lots of choices) with home fries, which are done with onions and green peppers and some spices, which is an improvement over the usual bland ones must places serve. (When they first opened, they were spicier -which I liked- but it seems to have been toned down more recently. So less spicy, but still flavoruful.) My kid loves their giant Belgian waffle.
The menu is similar to the old one but there is a bit more variety, especially in regards to the specials, which I've been happy with whenever I've ordered. Coffee refills are included.
Their lunch sandwich special comes with a salad but you can substitute with a soup, which I like to do in winter. Portions are generous and I can rarely finish. They offer gluten-free bread options if you ask.
Service is polite...
