Sammy's Kitchen and Bar — Restaurant in Medicine Hat

We had been to Sammy's a few times in the past three years but this was our first at the new Dunmore location on August 10, 2025. The decor was warm and the room was comfortably cool. There were just the two servers this Sunday night but we did not have to wait long for the cocktails and wines. The shrimp scampi did not good but not awesome and the calamari was barely warm. The steak Neptune lacked seafood but the steak was medium rare as ordered. The medium rare sirloin steak and the chicken parmesan were done well. My brother and I were so disappointed with the "Prime Rib" special. Instead of an "au jus" dip, the meat was covered in an overly "salty" gravy. It was difficult to see the cook on the cuts. Sammy’s is a hidden gem for dining in Medicine Hat. The restaurant is small and cozy with a warm atmosphere and a nice old bar along the one wall.

All of the staff were very welcoming and friendly and made sure you were having a great dining experience.

I had Braised Lamb Shank With white cheddar mash, seasonal vegetables and red wine herb jus. It was nicely presented, prepared excellent and very tasty delicious.

My wife had their special which was Salmon Wellington. A puff pastry stuffed with salmon, cream cheese and broccoli served on a bed of rice pilaff. Again it was presented well, the salmon was moist and the vegetables tender. My wife said it was “to die for” and would definitely have it again.

Very nice atmosphere. Service was very slow, with only one watered down drink offered during a 45 minute wait for the food. We ordered steak neptune, which was advertised coming with tiger prawns and crab meat in a sauce. It was likely canned crab meat, and there were no tiger prawns. When asked, we were told that the prawns are blended in with the crab sauce. Who does that??? My steak was overcooked, not medium rare, and both were overly salty.
