As a foodie, professional Chef, and meal-maker at home for a wife and two kids, I usually don't have time enjoy a meal out. This is my experience of the Iron Forge in Merrickville.
I took my wife there on the advice of a family member for her birthday. We both like pizza and thought we'd give it a shot. We were greeted by Tiernan, a joyful and energetic human being. I asked if they did anything special for those celebrating a birthday. He said not officially, but being the owner's son, he could possible work something out.
First, the menu. I appreciate small and clean menus, not 5-6 page novels found at franchise businesses. Fewer items usually mean a focus on quality dishes and products. The descriptions were well worded, easy to understand and the prices attached were absolutely reasonable.
THE STARTER We came for pizza. Period. But Tiernan's charm pointed us to an appetizer that was completely new to me, and that's saying a lot considering I've eaten a LOT of different foods, and I'm rarely inspired by something new. He convinced us to try the "Giv'er Sticks"; a Panko & Bacon Bit crust enveloping Black Forest Ham, Cheddar, and Mozzarella Cheese. If that wasn't delicious enough, it came with 100% pure Maple Syrup for dipping. Every bite of those fried treasures were salaciously savoured.
THE PIZZA My wife ordered the Mediterranean, and I the Canadian. The sourdough crust was baked to perfection. It was clean, light, and springy. Every bite of that crust familiarized me with that classic sourdough tang. A zesty, yet rich, tomato sauce was the foundation of appropriately portioned peppers, mushrooms, bacon, and sausage. All of these toppings fused beautifully to the crust as I tested the weight and portions of ingredients by flipping the slice upside down. Nothing fell off, and the crust didn't fold. Perfection. No one likes a soggy and slippery slice of pizza. I could tell this recipe has been immaculately tested. As we finished our personal pan-sized pizzas, Tiernan remembered that I mentioned my wife's birthday.
THE DESSERT What was delivered to us then was a perfect two-person slice of flourless Chocolate Cake, drizzled with velvety chocolate sauce. The brownie like texture of the cake melted in our mouths. It was a fantastic finish which my wife certainly appreciated.
I always root for the small guys. The family businesses. Great customer service is just as important as the food they serve. People remember great servers. People remember great food. When you get both in the same establishment, you'll never forget and will want to return. I anticipate revisiting in the near future. I'm sure of it. Thank you to the staff of the Iron Forge for making my wife's birthday a...
Read moreI wanted to add to the review below, posted 7 months ago because Iron Forge has done it again! Our company recently hosted an off site for 90 staff and they all wanted a pizza lunch! We were thrilled when Iron Forge agreed to feed our crew and worked with us to provide everyone with their faves - they also offer gluten free and non-dairy cheese options which we really appreciated! They provided enough pizza for all of us, delivered on time and piping hot (not to mention DELICIOUS)! Once again, I would like to thank Iron Forge Merrickville for providing an excellent service and making our event just that much better :) Again, I cannot recommend them enough!
I recently had the pleasure of ordering pizza from Iron Forge in Merrickville for a work lunch and learn, and I have to say, I was blown away by how delicious the pizza was! The crust, made with sourdough, was incredible - it was crispy and chewy, and had a perfect balance of tanginess and depth of flavor. In addition, the fact that they offer gluten-free crust is a huge plus for those with dietary restrictions.
The pizza was served fresh out of the oven and piping hot, which added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. The service was also top-notch - the staff was friendly, attentive, and accommodating, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable.
Overall, I can't recommend Iron Forge enough for their amazing pizza and exceptional service. I know for a fact that we will be ordering from them again, and I can't wait to try more of their delicious offerings. Thank you, Iron Forge, for making our work lunch and learn...
Read moreNo complaints with food. My only complaint is anytime we have made an order for delivery it has taken over an hour for our order to arrive when we live just outside of town.
I think they are under new management and since then the delivery and service has been poor. When we first ordered my husband was told 40mins to and hour. I called after waiting almost an hour and a half to get an updated ETA for our delivery and the gentlemen on the phone wouldnt let me get a word in. He gave me a speech about how they have one driver and their busy (which i understand) he didnt inform me if our order was out eith the driver or sitting with all the other pizzas under the warmer. He said to call back in a half hour. My husband called back and the same man (who ends up being the owners son) said there must be some mix up because our delivery was delivered an hour ago, but I had called a half hour ago to ask about an ETA. The owners son then proceeded to say that he never told my husband it would be 40minutes and he would call the driver and give us a call back after my husband asked what they would do to compensate us since we ordered dinner at 4:30 and it's been over 2 hours!!!
The delivery driver finally showed up over 2 hours later and said she got lost and ended up in smiths falls. We didn't accept the pizza nor did we pay as we will not support such awful customer service.
No surprise. NO CALL BACK. Lowsy, poor service.
Lesson learned. Don't stray from good ol faithful. We are REGULAR customers to Milanos. Good food and...
