The Goose & Gridiron — Restaurant in Merrickville-Wolford

Wow. Terrible service. The food wasnt bad, and in the past I've loved this restaurant. But this time? We were seated at a table under the air conditioner. When we told the waitress it was way to cold she said she couldnt adjust it for us. We asked if we could redirect the airflow, which corrected the issue. Which worked. Not sure why she didn't suggest it. I asked for water, which was never brought out to me. In fact, in the well over an hour that we were at the restaurant the waitress never once came out to ask if we wanted any refills on our beveridges. When we ordered, my father ordered mushroom soup. Waitress said that was soup of the day. My daughter in law also asked for the mushroom soup as her side dish. Corn chowder was served and when we pointed that out to the waitress , she just said, that was what they had. She never apologised or offered to take it and bring back an alternative option. And didn't offer to adjust the bill for my daughter in law whose, was the side dish. My son ordered a steak sandwich. It came out to the table 1/2 and hour after the rest of our meals- was over cooked ( he asked for med rare, it was brought out well done.) My sister ordered french onion soup- corn chowder was brought out and the waitress argued with her that she ordered mushroom soup. The waitress not once, came around to ask how our meals were. The waitress knocked my purse off my chair, and didnt bother to pick it up off the floor. The restaurant wasnt very busy that day. Not sure whats going on guys. But you better pick up the pace. I dont live in Ontario anymore. But my family cottage is in merrickville. I looked forward to having lunch in your restaurant before I head back to BC...

In 2024 I tried the Chicken in a Waffle and the Big Crunch fish sandwich. My only comment here is on the Big Crunch sandwich. I found it to be mushy overall except for a few bites on the end of the fish that weren't touching the coleslaw and sauce or mayo. There was too much of it and hence the mushiness (or maybe the fish was mushy inside the crust too, (not sure). I didn't really detect a lot of flavor in the fish either. The poutine side was the best part of the dish. I suspect the fish and chips would be a better choice for getting crispy fish. My wife had the fish tacos and thought they were quite good. I still maintain that the Yorkie beef dip and for my wife the Chicken Cran-Apple Brie sandwich were the best we have tried so far...but to each his own. We have eaten there twice this year (2023)and enjoyed each visit overall. I recommend the Yorkie Beef Dip and my wife recommends the Chicken Cran-Apple Brie Sandwich. The Fish in the fish and chips had a really nice light batter fried correctly to my taste anyway. I can't really comment on the flavor of it, as I only had a bite of someone else's in my party. The Meat Coma was huge, but the problem is it fell apart in my hands, so very messy and considering everything that was in it, it wasn't that tasty, not bad at all, just so-so......I would go back again and try the Chicken in a Waffle...

It was a nice looking English style pub. We showed up on a Saturday around noon with a good number of people already seated. Drinks were brought quickly, but the server was impatient when asked questions about what they had on tap. Then the service went downhill from there. We ordered the buffalo wrap and a King burger. Both with fries. These are standard type meals with no special requests. It took almost 1h 40m to receive our orders. We watched other patrons, who arrived and ordered after us, receive their orders. They proceeded to finish eating, pay their bill and left the restaurant. New patrons were seated, ordered and received their food at the same time as we did. We were told that our food was being plated about 85 minutes into our wait. It took another 15 mins for it to come out. On the bright side, both the wrap and burger were delicious...but you can get that at most places. On the downside, the fries were cold and hard. I guess it would have been worse if the burger was cold and bland. There was a brief apology for things taking long, but that doesn't give me back my time. 2 hours for lunch is unacceptable. I don't know if it was the server or cook that messed things up. But as a team, they get a failing grade. I'd suggest only going here if you have lots of time on hand with no plans to do anything else. I don't intend...
