The Yellow Canoe Café in Merrickville is a true gem and easily one of the best spots in town for a meal. The space itself is charming, warm, and cozy, with a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to linger over lunch or coffee. It has that perfect small-town charm paired with food that feels fresh, thoughtful, and elevated. The menu is creative without being overwhelming, with plenty of options that highlight fresh, local ingredients. Everything we tried was delicious, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. Portion sizes were just right—hearty enough to be satisfying but still balanced so you can enjoy every bite. Their soups, sandwiches, and daily specials are especially worth trying. Service was excellent from start to finish. The staff are friendly, attentive, and quick to answer questions or make recommendations. You can tell they take pride in the café and in making sure guests have a wonderful experience. One tip: I highly recommend making a reservation, as the café is popular and the seating area is on the smaller side. It’s well worth the planning ahead, though—every visit feels special. Overall, Yellow Canoe Café is a must-visit in Merrickville for anyone who loves great food, warm service, and a...
Read moreMy friend and I really enjoy Merrickville and saw there were some choices for restaurants even though we’re in a pandemic situation.
We wandered into the yellow canoe and were greeted by someone who took our order and our money. The only available seats during this crazy time were outside so we waited to see if we could get a table no one informed us that might not be so! Upon paying in cash for my 1/2 sandwich and soup I was asked if I required change? The bill was $14 and I offered $20. Cash. I have always thought gratuities were based on merit? As it turned Out a table eventually became available. Our food was delivered without any utensils or napkins. My chief occupation has been in the hospitality field, owning, and teaching for over 50 years. Is this what young people expect now from patrons to put up and shut up? Garbage was overflowing on the patio. I suggest management to be a tad more aware of what...
Read moreWe have been coming here for years. Usually once a month as we drive 45 min to get here. The food is always top notch!!! We love the atmosphere and service is always great, but we just came home from there today saying we may never go back. Here is why: We were sat in a new section (a room not in the restaurant itself) they opened just recently. I think the saying would be"out of sight out of mind"! It's like we didn't exist once we were placed there. It was a bit before the server got to us, but then we were served right away!! That was great, but then forgotten again. We waited forever after our meals with the hostess and other servers walking by but not even acknowledging that we were there or finished. We were hoping for a second cup of coffee and dessert, however we ended up leaving and going to the front to pay our bill. I have never been so...
