Phil's Pub & Eatery — Restaurant in Midland

I went here a couple weekends back with friends during the bar hours.

I went to order a “Harvey Wallbanger”. Which consists of Orange Juice, Vodka and Galliano. I asked the bartender for one, and she said “okay” but didn’t remember the recipe. So, I told her the recipe. And she goes… “no, I feel like it’s missing something”. I assured her that I myself have bartending experience and have made this drink plenty of times. And then she added grenadine saying that it “makes everything better”. I didn’t ask for grenadine.. and it’s not typically in the recipe for a Harvey Wallbanger. Thankfully, I don’t mind grenadine, so I just took my drink after paying.

In the past, I’ve come here for lunch as well. It was a long time ago. But my friends and I ordered appetizers and all got quite sick from them. Hopefully things have changed now. During lunch services and dinner, I have only observed one server serving the whole restaurant.

I had applied to work at Phil’s 2 years ago (probably the last time I visited other than a couple weekends back) got no response from anyone even though they were “Desperately hiring” according to management. Called the store multiple times, no response. Eventually I got through to someone and they just said “yeah, our boss doesn’t like looking at resumes so he probably won’t actually hire anyone”. Great excuse and great way to throw your boss under the bus… a more professional response could’ve been “unfortunately, our boss hasn’t had the time to look over resumes at this point in time. However, we have your resume on file and someone should contact you sooner than later if selected for...

This was the first place we took our new boat before we even got it in the water (😁!!). Unfortunately we had an issue with the boat, forcing us to spend the Saturday of the July long weekend at the boat dealer getting some hands-on instruction and a few fixes. We were headed back to my sister's place, and wanted to find a local patio where we could take our senior dog (in her wagon of all things, because the dog has really bad hips so we basically enjoy wheeling her around everywhere).

We went to the waterfront patio spots but they were all jammed and zero parking for truck and boat. We ended up at Phil's, and not only did we get great seating on their off-street patio, we were able to park boat and truck right there in front of our table... double-score!

Food was great and service was great if not better. Young lady who took our order brought water for pupster and a tray of carrots when I mentioned we always feed the dog the carrots when we get chicken wings... so dog got a snack before we did, and we were able to enjoy our meals even more, thanks to the young lady, you rock!!

Had a great conversation too with another employee who came out to the patio to check out the dog in the wagon. Everyone there is friendly, and we recommend this place to anyone. We'd return for more anytime we're in the area. Cheers to you good folks at...

So I’ve never once left a restaurant review in my life, but I’d like to take a minute and talk about Phil’s Dining in Midland.

We decided to go out last night for a quick bite, and Chucks was packed…but I remembered seeing on FB that Phil’s had a Wednesday steak special, so we went there. It was hardly busy at all…and my question is WHY??

At one place you get a 7oz sirloin, fries, and corn for 15 bucks.

At Phil’s, for 4 dollars more we received:

A big fresh salad starter (soup was an option) Excellent thick cut fries (mashed was an option) A pile of whole tendercrisp green and yellow beans And 4: A really good AAA grilled 10oz NY Striploin (which was cooked absolutely perfectly…perfect temp, juicy, great sear and traditionally seasoned) Easily one of the best restaurant steaks I’ve had in this area in years.

I don’t get it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Disclaimer: I don’t have any affiliation, I don’t know anyone who works there, and last night was my first time entering that building since it was Sha-na-na’s…I’m just saying: If you like great steak, you need to go there on Wednesdays. For 19 bucks? It’s a no brainer IMO. We’re going to make it a regular thing, I’m that impressed.
