Rude woman working in this store/cafe told me that I couldn’t bring my dog into the store. When I pointed out to her that my dog was a registered service dog from an accredited Canadian Dog Guide foundation, this women proceeded to say “so what!” Normally I might choose to just take my business elsewhere but I decided to educate her that she should be careful of what she was trying to do as it was a Human Rights and Ontario Disability Act violation to restrict a service dog from the premises. Only then did she finally say “oh, I didn’t notice she had a service dog vest on.” Not even an apology. Interesting to me that the big red vest clearly marking my service dog from an accredited dog guide school and and also me telling her, didn’t seem to get her to acknowledge this. Only when she was told that this was a human rights code violation and that she was at risk of a fine did it seem to persuade her to change her tone and attitude. Very poor service and they should truly be ashamed of themselves to allow this to even happen in this...
Read moreI came here for afternoon tea because of all the 5 star reviews. Maybe those people came here on the weekend when there might be more customers. We were the only people there at first and certainly the only customers having afternoon tea. We all thought the food suffered from a freshness problem and while we were the only people there, it is often harder to get service when a restaurant is empty than when it is full so maybe a weekend would be better. The tea was great. I loved the cherry mousse and the coronation chicken was good but the egg salad was flavorless and so was the quiche. Many of the treats were supplied from a different location. If the scones are baked onsite every day then the dough was overworked. Better to have had 6 plain scones freshly made than 6 different flavors that came from the freezer. I doubt they baked six batches of scones for just us and the cafe was mostly empty while we were there. It was disappointing...
Read moreAmazing experience with Wendy as our host. We made a really last minute booking that was facilitated by the owner, Roberta.
We called for a same day booking for a party of 8 (including 2 four year olds). We managed to get a mid afternoon booking and due to covid restrictions, we managed to get the whole room for ourselves.
Wendy was extremely patient with the 2 boys and walked all of us through the various teas, scones and sandwiches.
Everything was delicious and included some of Wendy's entertaining stories of meeting various royalty.
A must visit if you enjoy a good cup of tea or want to try something different during a cottage trip.
The store also includes goodies...
