I visited 168 Sushi Buffet on a calm Saturday morning, drawn by its reputation for a wide buffet selection. Greeted warmly, I was promptly given a sanitized iPad to choose my dishes, starting the experience on a high note.
The culinary journey began with me getting Miso soup from their sushi bar, and then ordering tempura scallops, varying varieties of sushi and spicy tuna maki rolls from their provided tablet. Surprisingly they had no sashimi on the menu. Nevertheless the food came within 7 mins on their robotic servers. The presentation was consistently appealing.
The wait staff also impressed with their efficient service, ensuring tables were well attended and empty plates quickly cleared, kudos to them.
Despite these positives, the experience had its drawbacks. The robot service, while innovative, felt more like a gimmick, as it overshadowed the elephant in the room; the restaurant's obvious emphasis on focusing excessively on quantity and timely service rather than quality. This was noticeable in the sushi rolls, which seemed hastily prepared during the weekend rush and lacked freshness. The mango cake pastry was decent but lacked freshness and taste, was apparent that they used vegetable oil instead of butter. The ice cream, unfortunately, felt more like a watered down version of Chapman's ice cream.
The laggy iPad ordering system also needs an upgrade for better usability.
In summary, my visit was a mixed experience. Service and presentation were strong points, but the dishes themselves were mostly forgettable , with few dishes standing out and most needing improvement. Focusing on food quality is the only area where they need to focus in order to make the restaurant attractive to returning customers, not just for...
Read moreDecent food but customer service is extremely horrible.
Sunday evening, we wanted to order a Boat A for dine-in. We were directed to the order menu and proceeded to ask about individual rolls prices like Cali roll (8), Green dragon (8), and dynamite (8). After she told us the prices, we said we want the Boat A order of 40 pieces. Not to mention, most of the employees we interacted with had grumpy faces, and were bad-mannered. The manager was polite enough to let us sit at the dine-in. Following that, the lady at the counter did not confirm our order with us and thus they brought the food including the items we only inquired about.
They brought a wrong bill, began to accuse us of lying, and that we meant to order more than what we actually ordered. There was about 5 employees at our table all against us trying to intimidate us. They even brought out the chef (who confirmed there must have been a mistake at the table) and nobody even apologized for the clear mistake. The wrong bill was 81 dollars, which is about the same amount we would have paid for if we got All You Can Eat. Why would we limit ourselves to 60 pieces if we can just get all you can eat? Its because we only wanted 40 pieces from the very beginning.
Moral of the story is, even if they brought more than what appeared to be 40 pieces, 1) it is their fault for not confirming the order as there were things we only INQUIRED about 2) you shouldn’t fight and argue loudly and scream at your customers, especially when there is a misunderstanding or language barrier on your management’s end. 3) it is not our duty to count the pieces of sushi to make sure you perfected our order if you did not confirm what obviously...
Read moreMe and my friend both got food poisoned from Dec 19, 2022 's dinner AYCE. Been vomiting and having diarrhea 3 hours later. I was going to skip the rating and not return but writing because of food poisoning. (I have strong gut and not allergic to anything.)
All the foods seemed like thrown into the plate and rushed out. Sauce splattered everywhere, legit looked like skid mark on the dish. Food placed in the edge of the dish. The 'decoration vegetables' were so dried up, that I can tell it has been reused for multiple times. In the midway of dining, I didn't felt good, went to toilet multiple time as well as my friend. I did see the staffs wearing latex gloves, but I don't think they were switching gloves for serving food, drink and busing out the dirty dish, no wonder I'm this sick. I was very distressed and unsatisfied. No one came up, checked on us once, just take dish on their way back, and hand out dish. We had to raise hand to catch attention to get a refill on drinks.
Bill came out as 89.00 with cash discount and two pops. Didn't even bothered to leave tips. We left 90.00 on the tray, server checked the cash and 'reassured us' that total amount of 89.00 is NOT including tip. She wasn’t even the server for the night. She literally came to collect the bill from us. At that point I was so done and just left, because I felt nausious. I'm not paying for what I experienced in terms of service and food quality. They didn't meet the expectation, and servers needs to know that tips aren't just free...
