When we arrived for a birthday it was a party of 7. The restaurant itself is very clean and well decorated and makes you feel really good. That's what one of the stars is for. We had a reservation. And when we were shown to our table the seats were nice and table clean. However we found that the table wasn't fully wiped and was covered in some pepper. It's fine, stuff happens. Maybe they were loading pepper and some spilled. So first thing that came out was kid's appetizers. This is the only picture I will attach because honestly this restaurant is not worth me spending additional data to do it justice. The picture explains that I think this restaurant is not fresh and dried up and sour. Oranges were very dry, old and seemed like they were left out for a day. Blackberries were sour and weren't even ripe. Cucumbers were also shriveled up. Kids didn't even touch it past first bite. The dip provided with this plate was just salt. Nothing except salt could be tasted and it left horrible aftertaste. Moving on to appetizers for adults. We got chili garlic shrimp. It felt like salty shrimp dipped I old oil. Red lobster's shrimp is unsalted compared to level of salt this shrimp had. After eating just 1 shrimp I wanted to drink gallons of water. Unfortunately during our whole stay we only got 1 refill on our water and only after we had to ask and wait a little. Next appetizer was carpaccio. It felt like leather hide of a cow rather than a delicate meat. Extremely tough and not even flavorful really. We additionally ordered french onion soup. Clearly they have used cheapest stock you can find in a grocery store to make that soup. You can literally buy any soup you want from no frills or anywhere else really and you will make way better onion soup than they did. Again the main ingredient in that soup was salt and very old stock. Now the main dishes. One of them was miso salmon. And again there was huge disappointment. It was salty and completely gross. Kids dish was spaghetti and also steak bites. And again it was covered in a lot of salt, probably to hide the fact that it was old. The only main dish that was absolutely out of this world was the steak. They can do steaks, they get it right and you are not going to be disappointed. That's why they get another star. So in conclusion I would say that their decor is awesome and their steaks are nice. So come in and have a steak and for the love of God don't order anything but the steaks otherwise you will end up suffering from thirst for the rest of the day. To the owner I would recommend to review their menu and remove everything except steaks since clearly they can't do any other meals except steaks. Or you know get Gordon Ramsay to do kitchen nightmares episode, it can be one of the great episodes! You guys clearly need help to live up to potential you are...
Read moreWe came to Chop as a group of 18 to celebrate a 21st birthday, and what should’ve been a special night turned into a complete disaster.
First off, despite confirming our reservation the day before, we were told on arrival that it had been cancelled the night prior at 11 PM with no notice whatsoever. After pushing back and dealing with a manager who was rude and dismissive, they finally agreed to seat us about 30 minutes later than our original time. That alone was frustrating, but what followed was just unacceptable.
The food itself was fine, but we waited close to an hour for it. No big deal, things happen but the real nightmare began when it came time to pay. They insisted we stay in our original seats to make billing “easier,” since we were all on separate checks. We followed their instructions, and it still turned into a complete mess.
We waited over an HOUR just to receive our bills, and even longer to fix all the endless errors. They had no clue who ordered what, and couldn’t keep anything straight. We simply asked to split the birthday boy’s bill among all of us — a basic request — and they acted like we were asking for rocket science. A solution as simple as one person paying and the rest e-transferring wasn’t even considered.
Let’s be clear: this restaurant does not know how to handle large groups. They were completely overwhelmed, disorganized, and incapable of problem-solving. Every time we asked for help, the servers went back and forth from the POS to our table like headless chickens, bringing back more confusion every time. They even overcharged multiple people for drinks they never ordered — and when we pointed it out, they acted like we were making it up.
After more waiting and frustration, the manager finally came out holding cash and said, “Who do I need to give money to?” in the most passive-aggressive, sarcastic tone. No apology. No ownership. Just attitude. We were there from 7 PM until almost midnight, mostly just waiting around for the staff to figure out how to split bills — something that should take 10 minutes, not hours.
Nothing was offered to make up for the ridiculous delays — no comps, no discounts, not even a proper sorry. Just excuses and poor service.
Bottom line: Chop may have decent food, but they have NO clue how to handle large parties, NO sense of accountability, and absolutely NO professionalism in how they deal with customers. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, and we will never...
Read morePros: The food was exceptional. The community bread and steak bite appetizer were delicious, and my filet mignon was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were flavorful and incredible. The pineapple rum upside-down cake with ice cream was fantastic—light and the perfect way to end the meal. Kudos to the kitchen staff.
Cons: Unfortunately, the service did not quite meet our expectations for a special occasion. Despite reserving for my boyfriend's birthday, the server did not initially acknowledge it when introducing himself. Instead, he went through the entire menu in great detail, which my boyfriend found a bit awkward. This misstep took away from the celebratory feel of the evening.
The manager checked in with us several times, which we appreciated, but it made my boyfriend feel a little uncomfortable. While they kindly apologized, no complimentary dessert or discount was offered, even with a $365 bill. We ordered bottled water ($8), three appetizers, two upgraded entrees, a dessert, and two bottles of wine. Surely one of these items could have been complimentary or discounted.
I had requested a birthday dessert with a candle, but it arrived with “Happy Birthday” written in chocolate instead, which was a thoughtful touch, though not quite what we had hoped for.
At the end, we were given two appetizer vouchers requiring an entrée purchase. Since we mentioned we live three hours away, these will likely go unused. It would have been more meaningful to apply the gesture to one of the appetizers we had already ordered.
While the food was outstanding, the service could have been more attentive to the special occasion. The effort to make amends was limited to an apology, with no tangible gestures to improve our experience or ease our discomfort during the meal. We likely won’t return, but we hope the restaurant takes this feedback to heart and ensures a more thoughtful experience for...
