I decidedly came to Port Credit to enjoy the food at El Jefe as I've been here multiple times since this establishment opened. Upon arrival around 615pm Sunday June 15th 2025, I placed my usual order for drinks and food. Drinks came out quickly however the wait for the food was over 50mins. The amazing waitstaff had told me that there is a backup on orders for the kitchen. Alright, that should have been noted to all the patrons at the time of ordering so we are not waiting nearly an hour for food. However, there were two major things that made my experience from worse to despicable. One was the live DJ playing. He really needs to hop on YouTube or TickTok and learn how to properly DJ. He was making an absolute fool of himself with mixing, playing and the annoying "here we go" Mario brothers inlay to his music. Not to mention the music selection, I surely felt sorry for the patrons who sat next to the booth. Secondly and this surely is a slap to the face, the owners family; and yes it was confirmed in fact it was his family. They came in, ordered their drinks and food, in a matter of 30 minutes they were enjoying their meals respectfully while patrons had to wait nearly an hour for theirs. A few of those patrons left before their food came out and mentioned that they were not paying for the food that they had ordered. I myself was about to go, however my food had just arrived along with a huge apology from my server; and yes I let her know about my experience and what truly amazes me is not once did the owner come up to his patrons to apologize about the delay as he was busy eating alongside with his family. The Chimichanga I ordered tasted amazing, however the accompanying salad that was supposed to come with it...it's a let's get shredded iceberg lettuce and throw an insane amount of green peppers on it and call it a chefs salad. Have never been so disappointed with El Jefe as this was favourite spot of mine until today. Never coming back as there are other options for Mexican in and around the Port Credit Area.
Service and Atmosphere, if I could give it a zero...
Read morePretext: We’re experienced servers with 10+ years in service each and passionate about Mexican cuisine. They were not full on a Saturday night, so no excuse there. Make your own conclusions: We saw 3 tables sit after us, they all got their drinks and/or appetizers before us. Our server Miranda (or Matilda? I couldn’t hear her well) just said “Hi, are you ready to order? Ok go.” after waiting at least 5-8 minutes. No introduction or telling us her name, I had to ask. Our appetizer beat our drinks. Our mains beat our drinks. We were told my pregnant wife couldn’t have a virgin spicy margarita. Why? Couldn’t the Habanero syrup (as advertised in the menu) be put in a virgin marg? We pressed and she did indeed eventually get it. Our server didn’t know any of our few questions about the very small menu, like whether it was green or red sauce that came on the enchiladas. No side plates or napkins upon appetizer arrival. No cutlery upon main arrival. Again, all BEFORE drink arrival. No two bite check. No drink follow up until we were almost done. Our server didn’t appear to have more than 1-3 tables and inside was less than 50% full. When I went inside mid service to use the bathroom, the bartenders were not making drinks and 1 was on her phone. Bad optics. Again, this was all BEFORE our drinks hit out table, to which we had to inquire to our server about. The fish tacos were good, but not 20$+ good. The enchiladas had lettuce on them. The rice was gelatinous and soft. The tacos didn’t even come with a lime slice, which is a first, but thats nitpicking. We have 1 week until our baby is born and we wanted a nice dinner that wasn’t a pub burger, and frankly this experience ruined our mood. Unacceptable service. Mid level food, and wouldn’t you know it, the PAT terminal prompted us to tip 18/20/22%. Unacceptable. We will never come back. Our server is lucky I left 5$ on a 75$ bill and that was a...
Read moreI want to write a google review for mexican restaurant I went to, please write it in compelling lamguage for me. Include that the ambience, customer service and vibe was top notch and amazing -5/5. The food was pretty good too, had nachos for starter which would be 5/5 and had enchiladas for main course which would be 4/5. Would definitely recommend this and got there again.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this enchanting Mexican restaurant, and I must say, it was an experience beyond compare! From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the vibrant ambience that exuded warmth and authenticity. The inviting decor and lively atmosphere set the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey.
The customer service was nothing short of exceptional - attentive, friendly, and genuinely caring. The staff went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of our dining experience was flawless, making us feel like cherished guests throughout the evening.
Now, let's talk about the food – oh, the food! The nachos, a heavenly starter, were an explosion of flavors that left us craving for more. Each bite was a perfect symphony of crunchy chips, zesty toppings, and gooey cheese. A definite 5/5 delight!
For the main course, I savored the enchiladas. While they were undeniably delicious, I couldn't help but compare them to the culinary masterpiece of the nachos. Hence, I'd rate the enchiladas a still impressive 4/5. Don't get me wrong; they were superb, but it's tough to top perfection!
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this Mexican gem to all food enthusiasts. The top-notch ambience, outstanding customer service, and vibrant vibe combined with the delectable dishes make it an absolute must-visit. I'm already counting down the days until I can return and indulge in this culinary...
