Well you asked for an explanation so I'll provide it.
I'm typically very forgiving of a restaurant and it's food. If something isn't great it's usually one item on the menu and perhaps it's an error in ordering or in preparation.
However Shore Grill and Grotto provided what I call at best some of the most mediocre food I've ever had at a restaurant. I honestly don't know where the rest of the reviews come from. It could be from the ambience of the live band out back or sitting on the nice patio that gives an overly rosy picture of the food here.
A group of 9 of us ordered all different plates. The chicken parm was over cooked, bland and the steamed veggies that came with it tasted and felt like they had just been thawed from a freezer bag you buy at the grocery store. The salmon dinner was again bland and unoriginal. Exact quote from the member of our party "I've eaten and prepared better salmon at home". The PEI mussels were mealy and barely cooked properly. However the wine lemon sauce was good. One of our group ordered theirs without bread due to a severe gluten allergy. Of course they received it with bread and when mentioned the server suggested she just pick the bread off.... When we said no that took another 20 minutes for the dish to come out. The burger was indistinguishable from any frozen burger patty. There was literally nothing about this burger that was bad, but there was also nothing that was good. The wings were half sauced properly and cooked on the more rare side. You know where if they had been taken out of the fryer 30 seconds earlier they would have still had raw on the inside. The sauce was fine, but overall nothing great about the wings. The pizza was another just ok dish
The only half decent plate was the appetizer risotto balls. This is only thing elevating this restaurant to a 1 star.
Our glasses. We had to ask for and send back our water glasses 3 times. They kept coming back with lipstick still on the glasses or thumb marks. Perhaps dishwasher was broken, but you would have thought after the first time the server would have made the effort to check before another glass with red lip stick ended up on our table.
To cap it off the server didn't know who she had put what food under whom. This resulted in 30 minutes once the bill had been printing trying to separate the items. Despite having clearly indicated who was responsible for what
I've never seen 9 people come away from a restaurant all with different tastes and experiences stating they would never come back to a restaurant, because thing were just so meh. Nothing stuck out as a I would come back here and overall the food felt like mediocre chain restaurant where all the ideas for food are lazy and without care. Collectively all of us would never go back here and spend...
Read moreI have few things to say. First, wherethere COVID or not, service should remain unchangebly stable for a place with 4.3 rating. We came in tonight and waited for at least 20 min before the server attended our table to even introduce herself with the restaurant being only half full. Appetisers and main course came all at once.. so while we were trying on the sharables, my pasta got cold. Really? MAJOR disappointment took place once the drinks arrived. My husband’s 9 ounce Sauvignon blanc and my 9 ounce Valpolicella both tasted like they were watered down. Come on guys. We respect wine and sure do know what these two should taste like... Another thing is “we don’t carry bottled water”. This threw us off. 4 people at our table didn’t touch the iced tap water glasses. They only thing that levelled up the overall experience was the food: both pizzas, cashew encrusted goat cheese and the calamari were good.
This review would most probably not even be read by most of the future guests and won’t even get to the manager of this place (that’s if they care about the reputation of this place), won’t change a thing in how the restaurant is run and most unfortunately won’t make those servers more thoughtful and organized, but one thing I want to say: EXPERIENCE is what makes people want to come back, share, bring friends and familiy to places. Today I felt like I was treated poorly and unprofessionally, yet still paid the same amount of money as at a place where they try hard, enjoy and create a welcoming atmosphere for their guests.
Only with the best intentions: guys, places like yours eventually close down because you...
Read moreWe came to shore grill and grotto as a group of eight and let’s just say we are not going back. I ll start with the service - not a great experience. The server got our drinks wrong, charged us for an extra drink, wrote everything down and still got our bills wrong. I am not sure if she was over worked or what was going on but she seemed so dazed and not at all polite or apologetic. The drinks were so watered down, I could barely taste anything but ice. I think everyone’s food was average not the best but me and someone else ordered the fajitas and I am not even sure how this was served as food. The chicken was burnt and unseasoned. Request to the restaurant and kitchen - please don’t serve this to anyone. The waitress asked us if we wanted to speak to the manager and we said nope - we just wanted to pay our bill and leave. She brought us our bills, it was wrong, but again we just wanted to leave. Now the wait begins, after 20mins of waiting we got up to go inside to find someone who could help us so that we could pay and leave. Turns out our waitress was looking for a machine. But I don’t think she was searching very hard because we were able to pay inside on a portable machine. I will say this, they had plenty of staff to bring out the food and clear our plates. They were very efficient with that but overall it was still poor. I think enough said - I am sure they are really busy on a Saturday night but our experience was...
