Haritna Egyptian Food — Restaurant in Mississauga

I rarely write Google reviews for restaurants, but I’m writing this because the experience was too bad to ignore.

A couple of months ago, I ordered catering from this restaurant. To qualify for delivery, the total had to be over $150, which I made sure to exceed. I placed the order via their website and included a note that it needed to be delivered at 5 PM. I also called twice to confirm the order and ensure it would be delivered on time. Despite this, I waited past 6:30 PM, and when I followed up, I was repeatedly told the driver was “on the way.” Ultimately, I had to order from another restaurant because the food never arrived.

Fast forward to a month ago, I was near the restaurant with my family and decided to stop by. As soon as I walked in, I was told the restaurant was fully booked for a private event, and they weren’t accepting any orders—not even takeout. When I asked why their Google Maps wasn’t updated to reflect this, I was told it’s “impossible” for them to update it.

A few days ago, they announced an open buffet on Tuesday Jan 7th. I called the same day to reserve, but today they called back to tell me the buffet was fully booked. The only spot they could offer my family and me was in the drive-through area, which was heated but far from ideal.

I’ve never dealt with such unprofessionalism. If you don’t have the capacity, don’t take reservations. If you’re hosting private events, update your Google Maps so customers don’t waste their time driving to your restaurant only to be turned away. These are basic expectations for running a business. I’ll never try to book or order from this...

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was rather quiet. We took a while to decide what to order and ended up with the following:

Mix Appetizer - The hummus and baba ganoush were really good, but my favorite was the yogurt. It was tangy and fresh. It came with some tomatoes and cucumber and pita of course. It arrived on a huge wooden board, and there was hardly any room for it on the table! We had so much left over we had to take it home.

Koshari - This was something I'd never tried before, and it sounded good. Now I want to eat it all the time. A homestyle meal of cuppoard leftovers is how I look at it (Rice, macaroni, lentils, chickpeas, fried onions). It was so good, especially with the tangy red sauce. I didn't go for the hot sauce because it was REALLY hot. My friend and I shared and there was still too much and took the remains home as well.

Stuffed Falafel - We ordered two and each had one. It was good. I am always hesitant about falafel because if the oil it is fried in is "old" you can taste it. But this was excellent. Actually probably one of the best Falafels I've had in a very long time. It came with a basket of extra pita that we also took home.

The restaurant was casual but also sort of fancy at the same time. There is table service, but it looks like you can easily order out and they do catering too. The staff was super-friendly and helpful and after bringing our food and checking on us briefly, they left us to our conversations. It was perfect.

If there is a zero I would have given it to this terrible place! Worst staff ever! Please don’t go and waste your time as you might be denied coming in like us!!!!! So we plan to go on a normal Thursday with a baby and old parents to be told at the door that they don’t accept people for breakfast today because of a special event going on that had booked the entire floor area!!!! First, why does the website say it’s open! Second, why didn’t the lady on the phone tell me that when I called JUST a day before asking if the place is open all weekdays for breakfast!! And on top of that not a single word of apology for the inconvenience! SOOOOO extremely rude to us instead of being sorry for the inconvenience of coming with old parents and a baby all the way (me from Milton) and get turned around to leave just like that!!! The lady keeps saying why did t you ask if we have special events or not!!! What a horrible unreasonable answer is that!!!! Extremely unprofessional!
